Video Test Milwaukee Grinder vs DeWalt vs Makita vs Metabo

We mentioned the overhaul of the Milwaukee Grinders in a recent post and how several of our contacts have been testing them in heavy abuse environments with very positive results. Check out the YouTube video below to see the Milwaukee vs DeWalt vs Makita vs Metabo small angle grinders in action for yourself. These are the 4.5” models cutting into thick steel plate until the motors basically die. The Milwaukee higher 11 Amp motors and overload protection allow the Milwaukee is able to handle the abuse better than it’s counter parts.

See the full selection of Milwaukee Grinders at Ohio Power Tool. That includes the economically priced Milwaukee 6147-30 ($89, Ohio Power Tool) which looks to be the one used in this video. If you have any questions on any small angle grinders give the pros a call at 800-242-4424.

Porter-Cable Launches 18V Cordless High Pressure Tire Inflator

Just last week Porter Cable announced a low profile cordless drill which really seems to be targeting more professional users and then this week they are announcing the launch of a cordless tire inflator. Interesting mix of products and both have their place certainly but we are curious what the master plan is for the Porter Cable 18V cordless. Price for the inflator will be less than $50 and should be available soon.

18 Volt High-Pressure/High-Volume Inflator –

The 18 Volt High-Pressure/High-Volume Inflator provides quick and accurate inflation for users in locations where there is no access to power. The unit can be powered from an 18 Volt PORTER-CABLE Lithium Ion or NiCd battery or a 12 Volt DC power source from a vehicle. The 10-foot DC power cord allows the user to reach all the vehicle tires easily, providing convenience and ease of use.

The inflator features two inflation options, delivering flexibility for different applications. The high-pressure inflation, with up to 120 pounds per square inch (PSI) of working pressure, is ideal for inflating vehicle tires, while the high-volume inflation is for inflating large recreational items.

Additional features include an automatic pressure shut-off function that conveniently shuts the unit off when the desired pressure is reached. The inflator can also be used as a pressure gauge by simply attaching the universal adapter to a tire stem and reading the pressure from the LED screen located on the unit. A convenient on-board storage area allows users to quickly store all cables, cords and hoses.

Exterior Portfolio - Dream Designer Exterior Siding Tool

We recently got involved with a project where one of the elements was new exterior siding. Having served the construction industry for many years, Exterior Portfolio (as well as Crane Plastics) is a very well known national brand for us, which also happens to be based right here in Columbus, Ohio. For the design and planning stage we tried out their Free tool on their website, and here is what we thought.

The Dream Designer is a pretty strait forward piece of software and really makes the process very simple. There are pre-loaded house templates it look at and get ideas of different possibilities which takes less than 30 seconds to get going. You can also add your own house photos with just a little more effort. Once your house is loaded you simply outline each surface area as well as trim and then customize it from a huge selection of colors, styles and textures.

Once the design elements are selected you can have the “Dream Designer Board” made with samples that are sent directly to you (at a minimal cost of $20). This is the perfect way to actually see how the siding will look on your house. For designers, remodelers and architects that don’t have huge presentation budgets this would be an ideal tool to professionally showcase a planned project and possible help win additional work.

We have not tested any other exterior design software however for a Free program this is extremely useful and really gives you a great visualization on how the finished product will look.

PORTER-CABLE 18 Volt, Two-Speed Close Quarters Drill PCC520B

Information on this drill was just released today and it looks like it could be a very handy addition for many plumbers, electrician or anyone who finds them themselves in tight situations. The projected cost for the bare tool would be $79 at any Lowes or online at Amazon. It does not look like there is going to be a kit with batteries and charger available at launch in November but our guess is it would not be far behind.

TOWSON, Md.  – PORTER-CABLE announces the launch of its new 18 Volt Two-Speed Close Quarters Drill (PCC520B), which was created for use in confined spaces and offers balance, ergonomics, control and versatility. Ideal for contractors, plumbers, electricians and cabinetmakers, the PCC520B delivers quality, durability and a compact design at a great value.

“This new drill allows contractors to complete their jobs quickly and easily by providing excellent control for fastening and drilling applications in confined spaces,” said Jim Stewart, cordless product manager, PORTER-CABLE. “This drill is a terrific addition to our existing line of 18 volt cordless tools, and it was developed to meet the expectations of professionals as well as the demands of the worksite.”

Weighing only 2.4 pounds, the PCC520B is lightweight, comfortable to hold, and well balanced. In addition to the two speed settings that deliver 0-350/0-1,400 rotations per minute (RPM) respectively, the variable speed and reversing trigger switch provide optimum control and performance for the application at hand. Of the two speed settings, the second, higher speed setting is ideal for fastening while the first, lower speed setting is intended for drilling applications.

The drill is powered by a 1.3 AMP hour low impedance battery and is compatible with all PORTER-CABLE 18 Volt Lithium Ion and NiCd batteries. The single sleeve chuck can be loosened and tightened using only one hand, allowing for quick and easy accessory changes. For visibility during use, the PCC520B also includes an LED light positioned just above the trigger switch.

Milwaukee M12 Ratchets Compact Cordless 2456-21 & 2457-21

As lithium ion batteries continue to improve and become more compact we have seen a shift of some traditional pneumatic tools to battery powered. The new Milwaukee M12 ratchets, 1/4" 2456-21 ($159, Ohio Power Tool) and 3/8” 2457-21 ($149, Ohio Power Tool) are perfect examples of this trend. Putting out up to 35lbs torque with relatively the same size as comparable air tools (when factoring in fittings and hoses). It certainly makes sense to have the added maneuverability of no hose or cord to drag around the shop.

These new ratchets use the popular Milwaukee M12 cordless system so batteries are very easy to find and compatible with dozens of other tools already. Another big advantage with going battery over a traditional pneumatic ratchet is the added LED light which illuminates your work area in a dark engine bay extremely well. The larger variable speed metal trigger is also very comfortable and offers good control while in use.

Available starting October 1st the new cordless ratchets will be a part of the “Automotive” line of Milwaukee cordless tools which we are very excited to see what else might be in this new lineup (perhaps a small cut-off tool or surface prep kit could be in the future?). For questions on any Milwaukee Tools call the industry pros at Ohio Power Tool 800-242-4424.

2011 Milwaukee Grinder Overhaul – Hype or Serious Contender

At the beginning of summer Milwaukee announced it was doing a complete overhaul on all of its 4.5”-6” grinders promising more power, better performance and better overall tool life thanks to a variety of electronic improvements. In talking to Milwaukee’s product development team they were promising to outperform and outlive any of the pro grinder competition in electric tools. A pretty bold statement from a company whose grinders have historically been ok but never considered class leaders.

Working in conjunction with Ohio Power Tool more than a dozen of these new grinders were placed in high usage environments around the greater central Ohio area with some simple instructions. Use the crap out of them and see what you think. So how do folks like them after the first 4-8 weeks?

We held onto a 6117-33D ($149, Ohio Power Tool) 5” variable speed 13A grinder for testing at the Columbus Idea Foundry’s metal shop. We were extremely impressed with this unit; the power is a noticeable increased against a variety of other 5” grinders we have used. After 30-40 minutes of continuous heavy use the grinder certainly got pretty warm but we were not able to trigger the overload protection at any point (we were actually deliberately trying). The tool free accessory changing feature was another big benefit in a shop where spanner wrench gnomes must visit nightly to plunder; we were unable to jam up any of the different types of accessories we tried.

So far of all the units we have seen go into the field none have come back with any problems and the initial reports were all very high praises on performance. You may think 2 months isn’t a long time but in some fab shop environments these grinders are getting used continuously all day and 4-6 months on a grinder considered a “long time”. Testing is certainly far from over so we will report back again when we finally do get some failures and I am sure they are bound to happen unless Milwaukee has changed the laws of physics somehow…

With 18 new models there are certainly a lot to choose from so here are a few differentiators to help figure out which is going to be right for you.

Motor Options: 11Amp or 13Amp
Switch Type: Paddle, Trigger, Thumb Switch
OSHA concerns: Lockable Trigger or Non-Lockable Trigger

Best Value: 6147-30 ($79, Ohio Power Tool) 4.5”, 11A, Paddle, Lock-on – Probably the best Amp/dollar value in the grinder world today, same solid 11A motor as the others and it locks for better maneuverability.

Variable Speed: 6117-33D ($149, Ohio Power Tool) 5”, 13A, Thumb switch, Lock-on – Only one of the 18 new models with variable speed but a serious contender against any other variable speed out there.

Cut-Offs: 6161-30, 6161-33, 6161-31 ($139, Ohio Power Tool) 6”, 13A – These units all come with a 6” Type 1 guard (cut-off only) so you can’t use any grind wheels on it. We were really not happy to see this because we know what the answer will be in the field (to simply loose the guard all together) and that could spell disaster. With the kind of torque these units have guys will be happy to run them with 6” wheels. We are not happy with this choice from Milwaukee, why not a Type 27 guard which works for both cutting and grinding?

Check out all 18 of the new Milwaukee Grinder models and if you have any questions feel free to give the pros at Ohio Power Tool 800-242-4424 a call.

Bosch Sandwich Diamond Blades for Tuckpointing DD510H

The common thickness of a mortar joint is 1/4” and the traditional tuckpointing diamond blade simply makes the blade thicker to fill the entire gap in a single pass. At the time this was a big time saver, however the “sandwich” formation uses 2 blades with a gap to make the same cut and the mortar inbeteen simply falls away because it has nothing to hold onto. This means less mortar to cut, quicker cuts and less expensive tuckpointing wheels. These new Bosch wheels will be available on the Diamond Blades page of Ohio Power Tool along with a wide range of other masonry/concrete cutting accessories.

These blades will work on any grinder, although Bosch also makes the ideal tuckpointing tool 1775E ($299, Ohio Power Tool) which provides a spring loaded guard and dust extraction port virtually eliminating dust and debris from the job. In many cases tuckpoint restoration of old buildings is happening on busy cities streets and in areas near people, with these tuckpointing units it is much safe to work without impacting the health and safety of others. We would strongly recommend using some form of duct collect if you are doing any of this kind of work. Check out this quick video below using both the 1775E and the Bosch DD510H blade to see how much dust it creates, then collects when using the proper system.

Bosch Press Release - MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. – Every brick or stone building in North America will meet the tuckpointer at some point to cut, clean and repair old mortar. Deteriorating mortar leads to water seepage, which can ruin the structural integrity of a building. This critical application demands high-quality, long-lasting diamond tuckpointing blades that can withstand a harsh environment. And Bosch has the cost-efficient answer.

By combining tall segments and a superior diamond/metal mix with an ultra-efficient and fast sandwich-blade design, Bosch has created long-lasting tuckpointing blades that are designed to grind more surface area than competitive blades. The addition of 4-1/2” and 5” diameter sandwich blades gives the company a broad offering for use in hand-held grinders.

These eight-segment blades are made exclusively for dry tuckpointing applications. Blade widths are 6.35 mm (¼”) with cutting depths ranging from .75” for 4” blades to 1.25” for 5” blades. Typical applications for tuckpointing blades include mortar removal in brick buildings and grout removal in commercial tile applications that include waste water treatment plants and subway tunnels.

“Our Bosch sandwich tuckpointing blades are built to the highest standards of quality in the industry,” said Matt Van, product manager, diamond blades and bonded abrasives, Bosch. “We’ve talked to tuckpointing professionals from across the U.S. and Canada to develop the right combination of aggressive design and manufacturing excellence to ensure a high-quality, fast and reliable blade every time. This is a critical job on any jobsite; the blades have to deliver.”

Bosch combines copper, iron, nickel and cobalt hard-bond metal powders with high-grade diamonds to create hardened 10 mm segments. These blades have high-diamond content to cut mortar efficiently and ample keyhole gullets to remove discarded cement and other debris.

Friday 9/16 is National Tradesmen Day, Coptool Says Thanks!

We would like to show our support and give the first 10 Tradesmen, a FREE Irwin Vise Grip and Tradesmen Day tee shirt (shown above on the beautiful Ashley). For tradesman, simply say thanks to a fellow tradesman who mentored you early in your career with a short thank you post on our Facebook page. First 10 who post (that live in continental US) will get a free Irwin prize pack sent to them.

We couldn’t be happier to show our support to the cause! Below are some other National Tradesmen Day messages from Ross Porter, Irwin Tool president along with the one and only Mike Rowe. For more information about National Tradesmen Day, visit: www.nationaltradesmenday.com.

There’s a day to honor administrative assistants, a day to recognize bosses, and even a day to champion teachers. But what about those folks who show up at your house when the toilet is overflowing, or the A/C quit and it’s 100 degrees outside, or the rain is pouring through the kitchen ceiling? When we do say ‘thanks’ to the tradesmen who build America and keep it running?

The answer: September 16th. National Tradesmen Day. It’s a new initiative to honor America’s tradesmen. And everyone can participate.

As you’re out-and-about today, and you see electricians, plumbers, roofers, or carpenters at the construction site, stop by and say “thanks.” See how they react. They’re probably not used to hearing people acknowledge their contribution to society and our quality of life. Yet after their initial surprise, these hard-working men and women will smile and thank you, in return, because they are proud to work with their hands every day.

National Tradesmen Day, to be held each year on the third Friday in September, should become a day when each one of us pauses to thank a tradesman. Whether an auto mechanic, roofer, bricklayer, plumber, electrician or carpenter. Whether a grizzled veteran of the jobsite or a journeyman apprentice. Every one of us knows the value of the men and women who build America. For their efforts, I am grateful.

And so is Mike Rowe of the popular TV show Dirty Jobs. According to Mike, "Because of my role on Dirty Jobs, a lot of people think I speak on behalf of America's tradesmen. In fact, I don't. From what I've seen, tradesmen don't really need a ‘spokesman’ - what they need are fans, regular people who understand the magnitude of their work, the impact of their chosen profession, and the importance of their skill. As a guy addicted to heating, air-conditioning, affordable electricity, solid foundations, smooth roads, and indoor plumbing, I'm happy to honor our country's skilled tradesmen on September 16th, and the 364 days that follow. I'd encourage anyone else who has benefited from their work to do the same. We need more people who are willing to take the time to learn a skill and master a trade.”

I hope that National Tradesmen Day becomes a part of this nation’s rituals, and that we celebrate it with dignity and fun. Maybe it’s the day to fly an American flag on the porch or drop a box of doughnuts off at the body shop. Maybe we can honor America’s tradesmen by visiting our local elementary school and explaining how a job in a skilled trade is a solid, decent and admirable way to support a family.

To work with one’s hands—to build something—always has been and always should be commendable. Today, we make it official. Thank you, America’s Tradesmen!

Bosch GLM80 Digital Laser Distance & Angle Measuring Tool

These new Bosch GLM80 ($199, Ohio Power Tool) units are on store shelves now and provide some serious advantages over traditional laser distance measuring tools. They can accurately measure height of an object 40’ away hanging on the wall 15’ in the air, across the room, which we actually did and wow is that handy. Not to mention measure angles incredibly well as a digital level or shooting at a target 100’ away. The biggest problem I think the folks at Bosch will have with this unit will be explaining all of its many features. Check out the Bosch video below and their press release and see if it does a better job of explaining it than we can.

Mount Prospect, Ill., – Bosch Measuring Tools, the worldwide leader in laser measuring technology, introduces the laser distance measurer of the future. The GLM 80, the first Li-ion battery-powered combination laser distance and angle measurer, incorporates a number of new features including the ability to accurately measure heights of and distances to objects with only one click of a button.

The GLM 80 is created for users who need advanced functionality to increase productivity. The integrated two-axis tilt sensor, a first in the industry, enables the GLM 80 to read angles when the unit is handled either horizontally or vertically. Its indirect measurement mode is ideal for taking measurements that are inaccessible.  The GLM 80 does this by combining distance with angle measurements with only one click of a button. The tilt sensor can also be recalibrated with a few simple calibration steps to ensure accuracy after drops, temperature changes and other usage variations. In addition, the tilt sensor ensures more accurate readings because it indicates when the unit is level.

The new Bosch GLM 80 features an integrated Li-Ion battery, rechargeable via standard micro-USB. The battery can achieve up to 25,000 measurements per charge.

For added versatility, the GLM 80 can also be placed inside the R 60 digital level attachment, which transforms the GLM 80 into a digital level.  The R 60’s fixture and locking mechanism offers tool stability and its automatic recognition with GLM 80 makes the two a perfect pair.

The GLM 80’s large, automatically back-lit display with tilt screen technology offers easy viewing in all directions. Other measurement modes include length, area, volume, continuous, minimum, maximum, multi-surface area and multiple indirect measurements. The GLM 80 has four different reference points – front of unit, back of unit, tripod mount and corner pin. It also includes an integrated timer that can be used with all measurement modes to ensure greater accuracy. With enhanced memory, the GLM 80 can store up to 20 measurements, helpful if a specific measurement must be added to others or kept for constant reference.

The GLM 80 is perfect for checking heights and measuring distances that are inaccessible or difficult to reach and for estimating wall and floor coverings, HVAC systems, concrete and gutters. Combined with the R 60, the GLM 80 is ideal for leveling doors and windows, framing concrete, installing drain pipes, etc.

Dewalt 40-Pound Demolition Hammer with SHOCKS D25960K

It is amazing to us the battle going on in demolition hammers to get the vibration levels continuously lower. The Dewalt D25960K now is as low as 6.8 m/s² vibration level which is actually lower than many cordless hammer drills on the market. Previously the 42lb Makita HM1317CB ($1170, Ohio Power Tool) had the lowest vibration in the range at 7.2 m/s² and both significantly beat the 35lb Bosch 11335K ($999, Ohio Power Tool) which is probably due for an upgrade in power and vibration control.

The new Dewalt actually utilizes 2 different vibration control features, a counter balance and floating handle to achieve their impressive numbers. With Europe instituting regulations on vibration exposure, even at these levels the maximum daily exposure (under their safety rules) is still around 2-4 hours. To put that into perspective however the much small 1” Dewalt SDS chipping hammer D25213K ($179, Amazon), without SHOCKS system, has a 21.0 m/s² vibration level.

To learn more check out the full Dewalt press release below.

TOWSON, Md. – DEWALT announces the launch of its new 40-pound demolition hammer (D25960K), which has been designed to offer contractors elite performance, comfort, durability and ease of use. The D25960K is ideal for a variety of professionals including electricians, waterproofers, and mechanical, concrete, demolition and general contractors.

“Our new demolition hammer combines the power that contractors need for heavy-duty applications with a lightweight design,” said DEWALT product manager Jeff Beck. “We believe the D25960K exceeds contractors’ expectations specific to performance, comfort and portability. Through the implementation of specific innovative features, the D25960K is sure to be a leader in this market.”

Contributing to the comfort and control contractors can expect when using the new DEWALT demolition hammer, the D25960K features SHOCKS – Active Vibration Control, a soft start control and a large rocker switch.  The two-piece SHOCKS – Active Vibration Control system includes a counter balance mechanism and shock mounted floating handle that helps to dampen vibration levels. Thanks to this innovative feature, the D25960K boasts a 6.8 m/s² vibration level, which is significantly less than competitive hammers on the market.

The soft start feature that is incorporated as part of the D25960K aids in the prevention of bit walking. An electronics package also eliminates the high current spike on start-up, which therefore provides consistent power under load.

A large rocker switch allows for the tool to be turned on and off easily without contractors needing to hold the power switch down when the tool is in use. Although the new demolition hammer touts a low vibration level, it offers the power contractors demand with a 15 AMP motor that delivers 1,460 beats per minute. This unique combination of impact energy and beats per minute provides the user with the fast and powerful destruction needed for difficult applications.Aiding in durability, the product includes an easily replaceable cord set and removable tool holder. For convenience, the D25960K includes a kit box that is equipped with heavy-duty wheels for easy transportation, durable metal latches and a bit storage area.

The 40-pound demolition hammer, which accepts both collared and non-collared 1 1/8-inch HEX bits, will be available at construction distribution centers in September 2011. The product is expected to retail for approximately $1,079. All SHOCKS – Active Vibration Control hammers also come with a premium two-year free service warranty, in addition to the standard three-year limited warranty and 90-day money-back guarantee.

Jobsite Safety with Tool Lanyards / Leashes / Tethers

Certain industries have been using tool lanyards for some time however it seems like in the past few years this has really started to become a more wide spread practice. It makes sense as all jobsite strive to become as accident free as possible it might be a good idea to leash any cordless drill, hammer or even a screwdriver, which after some free fall could easily be a nice worker’s comp claim.

We were curious just what kind of damage falling objects could do so we pulled up the most common myth “Can A Penny Falling from the Empire State Building Kill a Person?” on Mythbusters.

We were also curious which common power tools already had the ability to be tethers without additional attachments. The Bosch 18V & Dewalt 20V cordless drills and impacts all seemed to come equipped with tie offs where as Milwaukee & Makita do not have them built in. The optional belt clips for any would also work to hold the drills but add bulk if you were planning to use a drill holster. In the 12V cordless category almost none of the tools had a lanyard attachment except the Bosch 12V Impactor, which was a little surprising to us not more would include them.

Hand tools for the most part are not yet being designed specifically to use leashes. Some tools like adjustable wrenches already have hooks, mostly for hanging in the shop, while other tools such as hammers do not and can be a little more challenging to accommodate. It will be interesting to see as tool tethering becomes more common who will start to incorporate these features in their hand tools.

Being smart and planning for the future might not be a bad idea for some of these tool designers; we have certainly not seen the trend in OSHA regulations getting more relaxed. Really it’s probably just a matter of time before anyone required to wear a full body harness (which is anyone working higher than 6’ off the ground at this point) will also be required to use some form of tool leash, just saying.

Irwin Tools at NYSE Opening Bell to Celebrate Tradesman Day

Yesterday Irwin Tools and the 2010 North American Ultimate Tradesman champ, Delwyn Thornton were in New York to ring the opening bell on the NYSE. This is a pretty big event and nice to see a little recognition for a tool brand. It looks like Irwin is planning events all month long leading up to Friday, September 16, 2011 which will mark the first ever celebration of “National Tradesman Day”.

Typically we would not be in favor of made-up holidays but in this case we are happy to be supportive as Tradesman in general certainly deserve much more honor and recognition than they get.  Check out the Irwin press release below for more info and check back with us soon, as we do have a few things planned to show our support for Tradesman everywhere.

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.  -- America’s tradesmen were the honored guests on Wall Street today during the ringing of THE OPENING BELLSM at the New York Stock Exchange, thanks to

IRWIN® Tools, who showcased “The Hands that Build America.” IRWIN Tools, a brand of Newell Rubbermaid, Inc. (NYSE: NWL), and a global manufacturer and marketer of a broad line of professional-grade hand tools and power tool accessories, opened the world’s largest financial marketplace by paying tribute to the men and women who build our homes, our roads and our schools, and who keep America productive and running strong.

The NYSE event was a prelude to “National Tradesmen Day,” slated for Sept. 16, 2011, the beginning of an annual day of recognition for America’s professional tradesmen. This year’s inaugural event will celebrate the role of tradesmen in events across the country, with cookouts at local jobsites and recognition at retail locations and schools. Individuals are encouraged to say ‘thanks’ to a tradesman who has touched their lives in an important way.

According to Ross Porter, President of IRWIN Tools, “Tradesmen aren’t typically the focus of the Stock Exchange, yet they are a vital part of our lives every day. That’s why we invited several tradesmen to be a part of the notable tradition that opens the U.S. trading markets. If we don't have a strong work force, America can’t function and thrive as it has for the last 200-plus years. We applaud what these skilled men and women contribute, often without the thanks that they deserve.”

Among the honored tradesmen at today’s ceremony was Delwyn Thornton of Brandon, Mississippi—the North American Champion of the 2010 IRWIN Tools Ultimate Tradesman Challenge. In ringing the opening bell, Delwyn stood shoulder-to-shoulder with tradesmen from across the nation, as well as leaders of IRWIN Tools.

Milwaukee Hand Tools to Take on Channel Lock & Klein Tools

The veil of secrecy has been lifted; Milwaukee Tools has officially announced their second round of hand tools and are very clear in their target of Electricians, HVAC, Plumbers, Mechanical and Maintenance/Repair professionals. In all we counted 18 new tools including various sizes of snips, strippers, pliers and cutters. There is no doubt in our heads, Milwaukee is going right after Klein Tools and Channel Lock to be the tool of choice for professionals. It will certainly be an uphill battle as there are long track records of pros using both these brands but the new Milwaukee tools certainly do make a good argument.

We had the chance to see all of these new tools about a month ago and have actually been using the lineman’s pliers for several weeks now. They are very heavy duty tools but also add some nice features. Most of the pliers get added pipe reamers on the head and some pliers also get them on the handle tips, a common modification we’ve seen to Channel Lock Pliers. These new tools should be available in October, check back under Milwaukee Hand Tools. In the meantime see pictures and specs on each tool below along with the full Milwaukee Press Release.

MILWAUKEE, WI - Following the successful launch of their new Hand Tool business in 2010, Milwaukee Tool continues to rapidly expand the tool line with the launch of several new products in October 2011. With a focus on delivering innovative solutions that increase productivity, the new products will fall into three new categories which include Pliers, Snips, and PEX Cutting. Committed to their core user, Milwaukee will incorporate features into each Hand Tool that provide application specific solutions for the Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, MRO, and Remodeling trades.

“We are committed to rapidly grow our new Hand Tool business,” says Tim Albrecht, Director of Marketing - Hand Tools for Milwaukee Tool. “We continue to add more resources to this business unit and further invest in its development. Milwaukee Tool’s approach of understanding our core user’s needs, and then creating new-to-world designs that solve key user problems, has set us apart.

The new hand tools specifically include Quick Adjust Reaming Pliers, Tongue and Groove Pliers, Aviation Snips, and a PEX/Tubing Cutter.  Additionally, Milwaukee will introduce a family of 6 in 1 tools that will reduce the number of Hand Tools needed to complete common applications such as reaming pipe, cutting nails, pulling wire, cutting bolts, and more.  The 6 in 1 tools will be offered as Lineman’s Pliers, Diagonal Cutting Pliers, Combination Wire Pliers, and Long Nose Pliers.

“One example of the advances in Hand Tool design that will set Milwaukee Tool apart is our 6 in 1 Combination Wire Pliers.  These pliers feature a new-to-world design that incorporates all functions of long nose pliers, wire strippers, and reaming/deburring tools,” says Albrecht. “We have replaced three tools in the user’s pouch with one Milwaukee Hand Tool;  creating less weight to haul around, at a better value…a prime example of what we call Disruptive Innovation,” says Albrecht

Backed by Milwaukee’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, each of the new products is drop forged, machined for maximum precision, and treated to resist rust. Durable over-molded grips add comfort and last longer than traditional rubber dipped handles.

Dedicated to delivering advanced solutions to increase productivity, Milwaukee’s Hand Tool category will continue to grow and offer innovative products.
