Exterior Portfolio - Dream Designer Exterior Siding Tool
We recently got involved with a project where one of the elements was new exterior siding. Having served the construction industry for many years, Exterior Portfolio (as well as Crane Plastics) is a very well known national brand for us, which also happens to be based right here in Columbus, Ohio. For the design and planning stage we tried out their Free tool on their website, and here is what we thought.
The Dream Designer is a pretty strait forward piece of software and really makes the process very simple. There are pre-loaded house templates it look at and get ideas of different possibilities which takes less than 30 seconds to get going. You can also add your own house photos with just a little more effort. Once your house is loaded you simply outline each surface area as well as trim and then customize it from a huge selection of colors, styles and textures.
Once the design elements are selected you can have the “Dream Designer Board” made with samples that are sent directly to you (at a minimal cost of $20). This is the perfect way to actually see how the siding will look on your house. For designers, remodelers and architects that don’t have huge presentation budgets this would be an ideal tool to professionally showcase a planned project and possible help win additional work.
We have not tested any other exterior design software however for a Free program this is extremely useful and really gives you a great visualization on how the finished product will look.
