New Product from Pumper Show – SeeSnake to Laptop LT1000

This past week was the Pumper Show down in Louisville, KY and was very curious about the show so we took a drive down early on Saturday. Set up like other trade shows but there was an emphasis on end user selling for many of the vendors we talked to with show special pricing and some products even stacked up in booths. As far as the pumper products went we really had no interest although have to say I was really impressed with the Blacktie setup, classiest port-a-johns ever possibly.

Ridgid had a good sized booth and lots of interactive displays and challengers for using some of their machines. The big emphasis from Ridgid was on “going digital” with their new RidgidConnect service. It is very clear in this could be a great business tool for many plumbers, inspectors, etc. The best new product from the show was the final piece of this digital puzzle. The SeeSnake to Laptop connection system and software introduced as part of the SeeSnake LT1000. This platform sites on top of the SeeSnake Reels (fits mini & full size) and connects directly to a laptop or microExplorer ($690, Ohio Power Tool). The Ridgid LT1000 also has a full waterproof touch pad to control recording and keep your gloved hands off the laptop keyboard. Software is included for full viewing of most laptops, exact specs for laptop requirements coming soon. The LT1000 will run off battery or AC power and even includes new reel feet stabilizers to keep the reel in place.

The Ridgid LT1000 will be available in a few months; more information and pre-sale will be available on OhioPowerTool.com in the Ridgid SeeSnake section as we get closer to the launch date. The LT1000 should cost around $2000 and will include a 60 free trial to Ridgid Connect which with a wireless internet card would mean inspection could go from reel to office to customer in a matter of minutes. Checkout the YouTube video below for more info:

Ridgid Launches a New Online Service at RIDGIDConnect.com

Ridgid has been busy at work upgrading their SeeSnake video inspection equipment to smaller, lighter, less expensive, more user friendly and digitally formatted equipment. All the new products now work with either DVD or SD cards, both of which can now be easily uploaded onto a laptop and sent to a new website RIDGIDConnect.com from the jobsite or anywhere. This new web service will then index the videos and other files which can be sent to customers, shared amoung co-workers and kept safe for years to come.

I just watched the Web Cast for the launch of RIDGIDConnect given by Jay Gatz, VP of Strategic Planning and there were some statistics I found interesting in their research. Of those currently using video inspections equipment 60% are already recording digitally on DVD or other media, 51% currently use laptops on the jobsite, 65% said they needed to save the recordings for a year or more and 40% said they needed to share the recordings with other people. It looks like pricing for the service will run between $49 - $129/month which could be worth it for many reasons. Obviously if some 40% are still recording inspections onto VHS this service will not be for everyone but seems like it would be the next logical step in improving efficiency. Checkout the full Ridgid Press Release Below the video:

Ridgid SeeSnake New 100’ microREEL vs 30’ microDRAIN

Its official today Ridgid has available the new 100’ microREELs which are the big brothers of the SeeSnake microDRAINs (30’). With the addition of the new line comes many different options to configure both systems so to keep things strait the microDRAIN also picks up model number D30, while the microREEL can also be referred to as the L100.

The microDRAIN now also has an optional 512Hz Sonde for locating the camera head, these models will be designated D30S. The case can be configured for use with microEXPLORER or traditional SeeSnake Monitors. There is also an option to simply purchase the Drum Only with either the D30 or D30S configuration, which will work with any of the microREELs. The microDRAIN camera head is still slightly smaller and more flexible so a better option for P-Traps and smaller lines with tight turns. (Popular models 32663, 34233, 33103, 34618)

The microREEL comes standard with a 512Hz Sonde but does have an option for a reel counter; these models are designated as L100C. Similar to the microDRAIN you can get a case that will work with the Explorer or traditional SeeSnake Monitors. The microREEL will also switch between microREEL drums and microDRAIN drums in a matter of seconds so the unit is extremely versatile. (Popular models 35133, 35183, 35143, 35188)

Ohio Power Tool has many of these new models in-stock and can answer specific questions on specifications and pricing. Call 800-242-4424 or email your questions to sales@ohiopowertool.com. Complete systems can run between $2,000-$4,000 which is significantly less than a system in the past and can pay for themselves fairly quickly. If you are interested in more info on the microREEL, checkout the short video below:

Milwaukee M12 PVC / PEX Shear Cutter 2470-21

How to cut PVC the easy way with this innovative tool, yet another addition to the Milwaukee M12 battery system. It is clear they are really going after the Plumbers, Electricians and other tradesman with their compact 12 volt tools and this is another perfect example. The M12 2470-21 ($199) is designed specifically for cutting PVC & PEX tubing and really isn’t made for much else, unless you wanted to remove an extra finger or two. If you are a plumber, install sprinklers or work with PVC a lot this could be a very handy tool. Currently the most popular alternative would be a manual ratcheting PVC cutter like the Ridgid RC-2375 ($87) which can get tiring if you are using it all day.

The cutter itself puts out 1,900 in-lbs torque which is plenty to get through 2” PVC in about 3 seconds. The 12 volt lithium battery is rated to make over 200 cuts per charge. Using the tool is very simple, hold down the safety and pull the variable speed trigger. Once the cut is made there is a separate quick release trigger, not sure why there is a reverse option on the cutter as the quick release works much better. The blade is very easy to change and the wrench for removing it is conveniently stored on the tool, another nice feature. Checkout this Photo Album for more images.

Will a tool like this be successful? The market for a PVC cutter is much smaller than for a handy tool like the M12 Hackzall and it will depend on if plumbers will adopt it. It is in a similar boat to the M12 Copper Cutter ($219) which seemed like a great idea but hasn’t seen a big shift away from the tried & true manual copper cutters like the Ridgid 118 ($28). However the manual copper cutters are significantly cheaper and can cut almost as quick with little effort. The price gap for the PVC cutters (manual vs M12) is much smaller, the 2470-20 (bare tool) is only $129 and the manual PVC cutters require much more effort. Hopefully the new Milwaukee 2470-21 will find lots of success among professional.

New Ridgid Endura-Clear Thread Cutting Oil 32808

ELYRIA, OHIO – Ridgid Endura-Clear™ thread cutting oil 32808 ($20.15 - 1 gallon), the newest addition in the RIDGID® thread cutting oil product line, maximizes wear resistance, increases die life, decreases operating costs and is CPVC compatible.

“Endura-Clear thread oil is a great addition to our product line because it extends the life of dies up to 60 percent, while significantly reducing threading machine operating costs up to 30 percent over the RIDGID Nu-Clear oil (70835 $18.48 - 1 gallon),” said Larry Feskanich, product manager, RIDGID.

The formula has been tested to assure chemical compatibility with FlowGuard Gold®, BlazeMaster®, and Corzan® CPVC pipe and fittings and has been added to the FGG/BM/CZ™ System Compatible Program. Endura-Clear thread oil contains an anti-mist formulation to inhibit inhalation and decrease mess. It maintains a workable viscosity for cold weather threading to negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit and is available in a one-gallon size.

Designed for hand threading and high speed machine threading, the RIDGID thread cutting oils allow users to produce effective threads in a variety of materials. The improved RIDGID threading fluids are mineral oil-based and do not contain any chlorine, halogens, PCBs, or heavy metals. The formulations effectively reduce friction and extend the life of the dies.

Ridgid Explorer vs Milwaukee M12 M-Spector AV - Full Review

Previously we did a post comparing some of the preliminary stats of the Milwaukee M-Spector AV vs Explorer however at that time we were just looking at the numbers from the M-Spector AV press release. Now the M12 M-Spector AV is in stock (at Ohio Power Tool at least) and we can do a more hands on comparison and see some of the differences between the two models.

Right off the bat you’ll see a good size difference in price, Ridgid Explorer 30063 ($690) vs Milwaukee M12 M-Spector AV 2311-21 ($399). So what does the extra $291 get you with the Ridgid and is it worth it? On the surface these two models look very similar, both feature 320x240 resolutin 3.5” screens, 17mm heads and ability to record still images & videos.

The Milwaukee M12 M-Spector AV 2311-21 even has several advantages despite the cheaper price tag. By simply being a part of the Milwaukee M12 line it gets a natural advantage as many people already have batteries, chargers and other tools. The actual M12 battery also lasts longer and charges faster than the Ridgid Explorer lithium battery, although I haven’t heard any complaints about Explorer battery life, it is always a big plus to have more time between charges. The Milwaukee also features a built in microphone for recording where the Ridgid requires a separate microphone.

The Ridgid Micro Explorer 30063 as you would expect for the price, obviously have several advantages over the Milwaukee. A big feature which is very clear when comparing them side by side is the self-leveling feature on the Explorer. This automatically keeps the image right side up which can be important when you are inspecting a pipe that takes a bend or just to keep you sanity. The Milwaukee does have a 180 degree flip option (shown above) which helps sometimes but other times just goes from one awkward view to another.

The Ridgid also wins against the Milwaukee with a much better designed camera head. The Explorer has 4 LED lights vs the Milwaukee single LED light. The head is also a better design with rounded metal face vs Milwaukee’s flat plastic piece. The Milwaukee head makes me nervous because it is very common to see abuse to these heads. The tips get pushed with considerable force to make any turns and all that pressure on that plastic piece… The Explorer also comes with the magnet, hook & mirror attachments (see below) which have proven very useful for specific tasks like pulling wires, recovering dropped screws or jewelry, etc.

The final reason you might pick the Micro Explorer SeeSnake over the Milwaukee is that while Ridgid isn’t building more products to use the same battery they are building products to work specifically with the Explorer. The microDRAIN 33103 for instance is a 30’ SeeSnake reel build specifically to attach to the Explorer and do line inspections. Although the microDRAIN has only been out for a number of weeks it has already had huge success among plumbers. This is the first and only camera that can pass through a toilet trap and is powered off the Explorer power supply. The Micro Explorer also features an expansion slot for future upgrades which, my best guess, could include thermal imaging or other cool technologies.

The verdict, while these two units look similar I would argue they are different enough that there are good reasons to select each. The Ridgid Explorer is a better unit all around but for many applications the added features may not justify the added price. If you need a simple handheld inspection tool you may consider the M12 M-Spector AV 2311-21 ($399) over the Ridgid Micro 31118 ($223) or the standard M-Spector 2310-21 ($249). Also if you need to simply document the inspection with images or video but don’t necessarily need to give the video to a customer the M-Spector AV is a good option. If you are planning to provide a copy to customers I would strongly suggest the Explorer using self leveling and keep them from getting seasick from an upside down spinning videos. Also I would recommend the Ridgid Explorer to any plumber hands down. Even if you are not yet ready to invest in the 30’ microDRAIN there are many additional products that will all be based on this platform coming down the pipe and when you are talking about SeeSnake reels which can cost thousands, paying a few hundred extra now is well worth it.

For many more pictures checkout this Facebook Photo Album. If you have any other questions on any Handheld Inspection Equipment give the professionals at Ohio Power Tool a call 800-242-4424 or email sales@ohiopowertool.com.

Ridgid Roadshow Columbus Stop - Pictures & Video

Last Friday was the Ridgid Roadshow’s Columbus, Ohio stop. The weather was great, the bratwursts were delicious and all the new Ridgid tools were on hand with experts from Ridgid doing demonstrations. CJ Perry, Jan/Feb from the calendar, was also on hand signing Ridgid Calendar and looking amazingly good. All in all a real nice day and everyone who came out had a great time. Checkout all the pictures in this Facebook Photo Album (no account needed to view).

Some of the big hits from the show were the new stuff like the microDRAIN, DVDPak, Ratcheting Tube Cutter 118 and Soil Pipe Cutter. This was my first time seeing the new Soil Pipe Cutter 34403 ($396 Ohio Power Tool) and what a great idea. If you already have a ProPress tool you absolutely need to get one of these attachments, they save lots of time, very easy to use and increases functionality in your existing tools. Checkout the Roadshow video below for a quick demo of several of these tools.

M12 M-Spector AV vs Ridgid Micro Explorer (Preliminary)

Just announced, Milwaukee will be coming out with two models of the M-Spector AV, the 2311-21 (17mm head) and 2312-21 (9.5mm head). The M-Spector AV is designed to compete directly with the Ridgid SeeSnake Micro Explorer which has been a tremendous success. The M-Spector AV features match up with the Explorer including 3.5” screen with 320x240 resolution. Both have the ability to record voice over videos, the Milwaukee does comes with a 2GB memory card vs the Ridgid with a small internal memory and mail away to get a Free 2GB card (but $9.95 anywhere). The Milwaukee unit has the ability to rotate live or captured images but it does not mention anything about digital self leveling which is a huge feature of the Ridgid Explorer. The Explorer also has expansion slots which could include upgrades for thermal imaging at some point down the road which I am not sure the Milwaukee offers. Pricing information is not available yet, I imagine it will be in line with the Explorer’s price of $690 or perhaps below. The M-Spector AV is also part of the Milwaukee M12 line, one of the fastest growing and most successful cordless power tool lines on the market today.

I imagine most plumbers will stick with the Ridgid product for the digital self leveling and the fact that it works with the Ridgid MicroDrain to go through toilet traps. That being said the reason the Ridgid Explorer has been so successful is that it has opened up so many new markets. From HVAC, remodelers, electricians, mechanics, inspection, safety, maintenance staff to Biologists studying prairie dogs in Wyoming, the audience is wide open for these new borescope cameras.

Ridgid SeeSnake DVDPak – LCD vs OLED

The DVDPak monitor and DVD recording units are available and shipping now! Super news, however there are 4 model options to choice from and you might want to spend a minute to make sure to get the right one for you. The big decision is LCD vs OLED screen. The LCD screen is larger at 5.7” vs OLED which is 4.3”. Both units are priced the same so you would think it’s a no brainer right. However OLED has higher resolution (480x272 OLED vs 320x240 LCD) but this also means the screen ration is slightly wider. I don’t know if there is possible visibility loss from the camera but traditional screens are 640x480 the same ratio as LCD screen. That would lead me to believe if there were image cutoff or stretching it would occur on the OLED (this would be a very minor effect). The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) is the newer technology and is in debate on whether it will take over LCD as the new TV technology. For this application however the OLED has a big advantage in that it can operate in temperatures from -30f to 130f which is huge if you are going to leave this monitor in the truck during winter nights or summer days. The choice is yours, choose wisely.

All the units feature full SeeSnake controls on the monitor, the ability to fully power any size SeeSnake camera reel from the microDRAIN 32663 to a 325’ self-leveling SeeSnake Plus. The units also features the new line trace technology which allows you to energize the entire camera and trace the full path of the camera (not just the head) using Ridgid locating equipment.

Ohio Power Tool has all 4 models available OLED 32923, OLED w/battery 33203, LCD 32673 & LCD w/battery 33198. If you get the unit by without batteries now and decide later you want to add the Ridgid batteries & charger, no problem. As always the Ridgid experts at Ohio Power Tool are happy to work with you to configure the right SeeSnake system and answer any questions you might have. If you are in the area all these units will be available to demo Friday August 14th at the Ridgid Roadshow in Columbus, Ohio.

New Ridgid 118 AUTOFEED Cutter with Ratchet Handle

The Ridgid Model 118 Close Quarter AUTOFEED Cutter 86127 ($23.57) was recently introduced which improves on the previous cutter designs by incorporating AUTOFEED. This feature automatically continues to tighten as the unit turns after the knob is tightened just once. This feature is ideal for tight spaces but actually very helpful anywhere. The model 118 is designed for use on copper, aluminum and brass with capacity ranging from ¼” to 1-1/8”.

Ridgid has again improved upon this design by incorporating a ratcheting handle. The model 118 cutter attaches to the handle but can still be removed and used without. Together they can fit into extremely tight spaces and with the ratcheting action operate with as little as 10 degrees of movement. The New model 118 w/ Handle 32573 is only a few dollars more at $29.57.

If you have any questions about any of the Ridgid Cutters or other Ridgid plumbing equipment contact the guys at Ohio Power Tool either by phone 800-242-4424 or by email at sales@ohiopowertool.com. Also don’t forget if you are going to be in Ohio Friday, August 14th to check out the Ridgid Roadshow. It will be a great chance to play with all the new Ridgid Plumbing Tools, meet a calendar girl, get some free lunch and take advantage of some really great special promotions at the show for that day only.

CJ Perry – Ridgid Calendar Girls 2009

An update on the Ridgid Roadshow stop for Columbus, Ohio on Friday, August 14th. Possibly the most important detail for some… Who is the Ridgid Calendar Girl that will be there? It has been confirmed CJ Perry (January/February 2009) will be at Ohio Power Tool signing free Ridgid calendars. I googled her and found her Model Mayhem profile. Apparently she is also very accomplished in all types of dance and being insanely hot is just a way to pay the bills. Below is a little about her and a youtube video of her “Reel”. We look forward to having her out to visit.

A little about myself, I am Portuguese but grew up in a little country called Latvia which is the Former Soviet Union. That is where I got my professional ballet training and danced with the Latvian National Ballet Company and a Professional Modern Dance company starting at the age of 14. At 17 I moved to NYC where I danced with Ballet Hispanico and Alvin Ailey. Major in Dance at Florida State University in Dance and Acting.

In College I started break dancing which lead me to tour and work with artist such as Keri Hilson, T.I, Rich Boy, Akon, Bow Wow and Paula Deanda.

I love modeling, singing, acting and dancing and take my career very seriously. I am very passionate about my work and I am easy to work with!

The oversized, easy-to-grip, X-CEL® knob is especially helpful for easier and quicker adjustments while cutting tube. This tool works for you as it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand, while rotating the cutter around the tube, making a more precise cut. Lastly, the X-CEL wheel pin means a quick and easy, no-tools-required wheel change on the job site.

Ridgid Upgrade - Microsite

Ridgid has recently introduced several new Seesnake Inspection monitors, dvd recorders and reels with several more on the way. We had previously posted some information about these new items but Ridgid has also created a great microsite (www.RidgidUpgrade.com) just for these new products with additional pictures, videos, PDFs, specs and more.

Some of the new items are in-stock and available now but we are still waiting on the DVDPak & MicroDRAIN. You can pre-order both items from Ohio Power Tool and will get them as soon as they are released without worry of running out of stock and backorders.

If videos aren’t good enough and you want to see the real deal in action there is always the Ridgid Roadshow which is currently traveling around the country, showing off all the new and existing equipment. All this plus there will be free lunch and Ridgid Girls. Mark your calendars for Friday, August 14th when the show stops at Ohio Power Tool in Columbus.

RIDGID Video Contest 2009 - "Luck of the Draw"

Back for 2009 the Ridgid Video Contest is open and taking submissions until July 31st. That gives you a few months to write the screen play for the greatest plumber adventure ever, hire A-list celebrity actors, build elaborate futuristic sets, tie it all together with amazing CGI effects and submit the video… or get a case of beer, a few buddies, a video camera and give it your best shot on a Sunday afternoon. Either way it should be fun to make.

Grand prize is $2500 in new Ridgid gear which is perfect because it times up almost exactly with the release of the New microDRAIN & DVDPak both in that price range. Top 5 semi-finalists get an all expense paid trip to Cleveland, Ohio for the Ridgid Round-Up and maybe more importantly you get bragging rights on the Ridgid Forum. If you have no interest in entering the contest no worries but you can still enjoy the videos from 2008, which you can watch on the contest site and check back in a few months for the 2009 new ones.

How Do I See Past the Toilet Trap? ...microDrain

Our hopes for the original Ridgid Seesnake Micro were crushed when we found out it couldn’t get past the traps. When we heard the 9.5mm head was coming there was again discussion it would be more flexible and it would do the job but again hopes and dream down the drain. Then news of the microExplorer… surely this would be the answer to our prayers but with all the great new features it still could not pass the trap test... until now.

Finally Ridgid has solved the problem once and for all. Coming this summer you can get your hands on a simple portable machine that will take you to the promise land on the other side of that trap. It is called the Ridgid microDrain and you can see the video of it in action below (Ohio Power Tool will have pre-ordering available several months before its release). It will work with the Ridgid microExplorer which means you can capture pictures and video onto your SD card. It also means you have another reason to pickup the Explorer now if you haven’t already got one. The new microDrain is basically a 30ft push cable on a light weight reel (8.6 lbs together) with a 22mm head, small enough for toilet traps and 1-1/4” lines. The Explorer attaches perfectly for a very compact nice package which will be very easy to carry around.

Ridgid Micro Explorer

This makes me even more excited about the future investment Ridgid is putting into the Micro Explorer product. We still haven’t seen any updates about what is to come for the expansion slots but the hope is we could see thermal, infrared or other imaging technologies available which could greatly expand the functionality of these cameras. Obviously that means the Explorer is going to be around for several years to come in its current form so no excuses not to get one.

New Ridgid LCDPak Monitor – Cordless or AC Power

Recently Ridgid revealed a new SeeSnake monitor which is more compact and has the option to power your complete system with 1 or 2 Ridgid 18V Li-ion batteries or a standard AC plug. I think the monitor makes a lot of sense if you could use a cordless system but don’t really need to record every time. There is a video out function on the unit which could be used with a DVD recorder or Laptop but would be more cumbersome than one of the other all-in-one units. There will most likely be add-on recording devices coming soon.

Ohio Power Tool is currently selling the LCDPak Monitor Only for $2635.08 available now and LCDPak Monitor with 2 batteries & charger for $2968.73 available in March. Important to know the monitor will not charge the batteries when plugged in, you will still need to use the charger separately. If you need a new monitor right away but still want the battery option you can order the LCDPak monitor only 31763 now and get the 2 batteries & charger kit (32648 available in March) separately for $333.66 when available; almost the exact difference in price anyway. As always you can call 800-242-4424 with any questions.

Checkout the video below for more details.

- Lithium-ion Battery Power allows you to run your complete system for up to 4 hours. (including Seesnake reel)
- Reduced Size frees up truck space and makes it easier to transport to the job.
- New Integrated Line Trace Feature allows you to trace the push cable with your RIDGID® locator (requires transmitter)
- Display: 10.4" Color LCD (26.4 cm)
- Resolution: 640 x 480
- Power Source: 1 or 2 RIDGID® 18V Li-ion Batteries or AC Plug
-
Output: Composite Video Out
- Weight: 16.2 lbs. (7.3 kg.) (without batteries)
- Length: 14.3 inches (36.3 cm)
- Width: 11.9 inches (30.2 cm)
- Height: 12.4 inches (31.5 cm)
- Lighting: 10 Level Adjustable LED Control

Ridgid Seesnake Micro Second Generation – Video

Here a short video we put together on the second generation SeeSnake Micro to highlight some of new features over the first generation. Includes a nice demo of the Micro hooked up to a 27" LCD screen with the new video out feature. In the video we also do a side by side comparison with the Micro vs Micro Explorer. It was also our first attempt with the Green Screen.

Free Ridgid Micro Explorer 30063

The Ridgid microEXPLORER has been one of the most popular new tools in recent months. Never before have you had so much functionality in such a small inexpensive piece of equipment. This should be a standard piece of hardware for most tradesmen. Unfortunately it will not replace many of the jobs of the bigger 200’ SeeSnakes when it comes to seeing in lines and locating the problem.

The good news is you can now get a brand new Ridgid microEXPLORER 30063 for free. The current sale price on Ohio Power Tool is $690 plus an additional $102 for the 9.5mm head. If you purchase a Mini-SeeSnake Plus and LCD Monitor with DVD 23888 you will get the Explorer and additional 9.5mm head for free. Call the experts if you have any questions 800-242-4424.

Ridgid SuperFreeze & Pipe Thawers

When it comes to pipe maintenance the easiest thing to do is obviously shut the entire system down and work at your leisure to fix any problems. Of course this not always an option. In some cases work needs to be done without shutting off the water supply. In these cases a very handy tool to have around is the Ridgid SuperFreeze. The SuperFreeze pipe freezer unit allows you to keep the water system operating while making repairs. The RIDGID SF-2500 is a mini-refrigeration unit that circulates self-contained refrigerant to its aluminum freeze heads. These heads form ice plug in as little as 5 minutes in copper tube up to 2 1/2" or steel pipe up to 2". The ice plugs remain frozen while the unit is on allowing ample time to repair any sprinkler head, valve, leaking pipe, etc.

The Ridgid pipe thawers units KT-190 & KT-200 do just the opposite; they thaw pipes that may have frozen. Recently we’ve seen a bit of a spike in interest for these units with colder weather and ice storms shutting off power in some areas. Not a good combination for pipes full of water. Thawing Units provide continuous heating to quickly thaw 1/2" to 1 1/2" frozen metal pipes. With these lightweight, versatile units, there is no need to dig or tear apart walls. Simply attach the clamps to the metal pipe on each side of the frozen section and the pipe is thawed within minutes.

Both of these types of units can be very handy for any contractors. For more information on these or any other Ridgid Plumbing Tools contact the experts at Ohio Power Tool (800-242-4424) and they will be happy to help you find the right tool for the job.

What's New from STAFDA 2008? - Construction Distribution

Recently I had the opportunity to work with Construction Distribution Magazine and report on some of the new products that were featured at the STAFDA trade show. In total there were 6 of us “Roving Reporters” and it was interesting to see the different products that were mentioned in the article. I personally could have gone on forever with so many new products, if only I had the time and patience, there were easily 100 products which should have been mentioned.

Some of the products highlighted in the article are: Milwaukee M12 Cordless Tools, Spyder Scraper, Recipro Tools, Ridgid MicroExplorer, Malco TurboShear FC, Bosch Laser Levels, Dremel Multi-Max, CP Hydraulic Power Pack, Wright University Online Courses, Bosch Laser Range Finder, Concrete Destroyer from DiTeq Diamond, Joy Jaw saw guards, Grill-N-Chill tailgate BBQ, Gear Keeper Tethered products, Bosch PS50 Multi-X and portable CO2 tank from JacPac.

Read the full article with pictures now on the Construction Distribution website, also the article will be in the December/January issue of the magazine which should be available this week or next.

Top 10 New Tool Gifts for 2008

1.      PS50 Bosch Multi-X
Oscillating tools are the most popular tool gift for 2008 holidays. Fein owned the market for several years with their MultiMaster but at $300-400 outside of most people’s budget. Bosch’s new cordless Multi-X expands nicely on their 12v Max line up and is available in 2 models :PS50-2A ($179) & PS50-2B ($199).

2. 2420-22 Milwaukee M12 Hackzall
The new Hackzall is a very cool new tool. Basically a mini version of the popular Sawzall reciprocating saw this tool is great for pros and DIY guys alike. The Milwaukee M12 tool line up has been expanded tremendously and there are combo kits and free tool promotions that make the Hackzall very attractive. Price is $179 on Ohio Power Tool.

3. 30063 Seesanke MicroExplorer
Probably outside more people’s gift giving price range at $690 the MicroExplorer is an investment. For pros it’s probably one of the best gifts you could give yourself. The inspection camera can record images and videos along with many other features including digital self-leveling.

4. T308B Bosch Jigsaw
At under $10 per 5 pack these saw blades might make a great stocking stuffer for any woodworker or handyman. Unlike typical jigsaw blades these extra clean cut saw blades leave you wood cuts burr free and practically a finished edge. At only a few cents more per blade who wouldn’t get the T308B jigsaw blades?

5. 2611-24 M18 2 Tool Combo Kit (free battery)
Milwaukee has long been known for some of the best cordless tools in the market. The new M18 hammer drill puts them well above the competition with 650 lb. torque. For a limited time the hammer drill includes the M18 Impact tool for free ($179 value)! To make the deal even better until Dec 31 Milwaukee is giving a free 3rd battery (mail-in rebate) with many of the M18 tools, this kit included. Sale price $349.

6. IQv144K IR Cordless Impact, drill, light (free socket set)
Ingersoll Rand, one of the top brands among mechanics, has been known for their air impact tools for quite some time. IR has proven they can also be one of the top brands for cordless tools. The new 14.4v IQv kit includes 2 batteries, 3/8” impact, drill, charger and LED flash light which will run for hours. Price on the kit is $398, for a limited time that also includes a free 3/8” socket set.

7. 36614-02 Bosch 14.4v Drill (free battery)
Recently Bosch introduced all new 18v and 14.4v lithium tools. These have all been really great performers but the 14.4v Compact Tough drill for $199 has been a real standout light weight drill/driver. These new tools are high quality, made in Switzerland and come with a free 3rd battery (mail-in rebate) until December 31st. If you are looking at light weight compact drills it would be hard to look past this one.

8. DSB5013P Bosch Dare Devil 13 Piece Kit
Another great stocking stuffer are the new DareDevil spade bits. Checkout our YouTube video for details on why these spade bits are so different. Any of the kits would make great gifts for woodworkers, DIYers or anyone who owns a drill. Price for the 13 piece kit with case is only $31.

9. 23578 Ridgid Laser Thermometer
This is one of my favorite new gadgets for the year. Point and shoot for the temperature of any surface. Obviously this is a great tool for plumbing, electrical or HVAC guys but there are all sorts of practical uses for anyone. Just recently I used one to get ready for winter around my house. Point and shoot at all the windows and doors and you will get a great idea where you are losing all your heat. Probably would pay for itself in the first 15 minutes you get it out of the box in December. Price for the IR-100 is $117 at Ohio Power Tool.

10. 6300-01 Dremel Multi-Max
I would say the Dremel Multi-Max is the #1 holiday gift for the tool lover in 2008. The price point is perfect at $99 and it is quickly becoming the most popular oscillating tool in the market. The kit includes the basics to get started but the great part is their accessories are very inexpensive with additional accessories expected in early 2009.

Ridgid Seesnake Micro Explorer – Video

Earlier this week a few of us from Ohio Power Tool went to the STAFDA ( Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association) trade show in Denver, CO. We had a chance to talk with the guys from Ridgid Tool and get some video of the new Ridgid Seesnake Micro Explorer. It would be nice if they would actually ship these and then we could all get a first hand look at it but in the mean time hopefully this video will give you a little better idea of how the menus work and some of the new features.

We are accepting pre-orders for the Micro Explorers 30036 at Ohio Power Tool. I am confident these are going to be in any day now. Apparently there were some software errors that caused the most recent delay but the word on the street is these have been resolved and are shipping shortly.

More videos and info on the STAFDA show will be coming shortly.

Tent Sale & Tool Expo – October 22nd

For those of you that might be in or around Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, October 22nd I would like to invite you to Ohio Power Tool for the Annual Tent Sale & Tool Expo. This year it’s a little later than usual so it would correspond with the launch of so many new lines of tools including: Milwaukee M12, Milwaukee M18, Bosch 12V Max, Bosch 18V Lithium, Ridgid Explorer & New Seesnakes, plus many other exciting product. All of these new tools will be at the show ready for you to demo, so if you want to try out the new Dremel Multi-Max or anything else come on down. Each vendor will be there in full force including the Bosch Big Blue Trailer. Milwaukee, Ingersoll Rand, Ridgid, Chicago Pneumatic, Hougen, Power Team and many others will have tents and tables set up as well. The event runs from 10:00am – 5:00pm or when people finally leave.

This is a great event for any one buying tools or just wanting to test out the new tools! Ohio Power Tool, already known for low internet competitive pricing, really blows it out for the tent sale. Lots of existing products are discounted for that day in addition to overall discounts given on all in-store orders. On top of the Ohio Power Tool discounts the vendors on hand have even more discounts in the form of promotions, instant rebates, free tools, tool trade-ins, etc. For instance, Bosch is offering $75 trade-in on any 18 volt, working or not, to upgrade to their new 18v lithium. That would put the new Bosch 18V compact drill at $129 and on top of that you would still get off an additional discount from Ohio Power Tool.

I’m sounding like a used car salesman now but it is definitely worth checking out if you want to get some really good deals on power tools or just get your hands on some of the new tools.

Ridgid Seesnake Micro 2nd Generation

The incredibly popular Seesnake Micro 25643 is saying good bye, however it will be replace by the 2nd generation Micros. The new Micros features two versions; the Seesnake Micro Camera 17mm 31118 & Seesnake Micro Camera 9.5mm 31123. These new models both share the 3’ (31128) & 6’ (31133) cable extensions with the Seesnake Explorer. I am not sure many people would need to use both a Micro & Explorer but it could come in handy if you were going to upgrade in the future or for companies where there may be several units floating around.

Some of the new features for the Micro include new thumb controls which make the units much easier to operate, new hard case to protect the units, obviously the option of 17mm or 9.5mm heads and probably the most compelling new feature which is Video Output. The cameras come with a 3’ RCA cable which can be hooked up to a VCR, DVD, larger monitor, computer, or any other device that can receive the yellow video imput from an RCA cable. This would allow you to make videos or capture images using the Micro. I am not sure why you would select the Micro over the Explorer if you need to capture video, as the Explorer has built in recording with much higher resolution (320x240 Explorer vs 234x160 Micro). Lugging around a full size VCR might be a pain as well. If however you just need the video-out feature 1 in 20 times certainly this would be handy.

The new Seesnake Micros are coming in now but in the 1st generation Micro 25643 is also currently still available and with a bonus of a free 3’ extension (mail-in rebate). If you do not need the video-out feature I would recommend picking up the current model with the extra extension but you better do it quick because these units are almost gone.

Top Deals: Ridgid Seesnake Micro 25643

For the month of September at Ohio Power Tool you can get free shipping on all Ridgid seesnakes, locators, inspection equipment and transmitters. That includes pre-sales on the Ridgid Explorer, Seesnake Micro and all the accessories. In addition to free shipping, the Micro also includes a free 3’ extension 26658 which normally sell for around $50. The free extension deal is good until November 15th which is about the same time the second generation Micro will be released. The new Micro will get updated thumb controls and a different hard plastic case but it will also be slightly more expensive ($239 same price as Milwaukee M-Spector) honestly I would rather probably have the current model with a free 3’ extension. For professionals you might just want to step it up and get the Seesnake Explorer ($690) to have the ability to record images & video. Below is an image of the new Micro with the different controls, if you really want to wait pre-sales will be available shortly on OhioPowerTool.com.

Ridgid Oil-Less Pipe Threading Model 1210

Typically when you cut and thread pipe you need oil to continuously pump to keep the pipes cool and cuts smooth. Ridgid has introduced the world's first completely oil less threading machine. This is a big advantage because with regular oil threading the job can get very messy, so it must be done away from the installation. With the Ridgid Oil-Less threader 1210 you can now thread right where you are installing, in basements, on rooftops, even in finished rooms. To eliminate cutting oil, the Model 1210 combines specially-formulated Ridgid Thread Cutting Coolant and unique Ridgid Oil-less Gold® Dies. Ridgid Thread Cutting Coolant will evaporate on contact with the pipe and leave you with a clean, dry, extremely high quality thread that is ready for immediate installation. The coolant system can also sit idle for any amount of time and go into use right away saving valuable time in setup.

To promote this exciting new threading machine, Ridgid has decided to give one away along with some other great Ridgid products. 1210 Promotion Registration If you are not interested in waiting to see if you’ve won the contest you can always get the Ridgid 1210 Oil-Less Threader ($1,865) or any other Ridgid Plumbing Equipment at Ohio Power Tool. The portable stand is a good idea for most jobs which will run an extra $190.

RIDGID microExplorer Digital Seesnake Inspection Camera 30063

Most people at this point have heard of the Ridgid Micro Seesnake and some of the very positive reviews of people using this tool. The Micro has a very wide appeal not specific to plumbing or any other one industry like the traditional Seesnake. The Micro has even picked up some competition in the form of the new Milwaukee M-Spector and probably additional companies looking to share it the success of this type of product.

To stay ahead of the competition and really take the Seesnake Micro to the next level Ridgid is introducing the Micro Explorer. This unit answers every possible complaint about the Micro and takes Ridgid way above any of the competition trying to copy the Micro.  Potential weaknesses from the first generation design are now all but gone with the Micro Explorer. The Explorer is fully digital with the ability to capture images (1280 x 1024) and video (320 x 240) onto SD cards which are very easy to then load onto any computer. The new camera also features zoom and the ability to pan left or right. I am assuming the pan and zoom are digital features. The Explorer also has built in Self Leveling which some of the larger $10,000+ Seesnakes don’t even feature. This feature is truly impressive and very very useful as it’s easy to get disoriented when the camera head bends around a corner as to which way the camera is actually headed. Some other key point is the screen is now larger at 3.5” and the kit comes with it’s own lithium rechargeable battery and charger.

The Ridgid microExplorer will not replace the existing Seesnake Micro as the list price is $784.45, well above the Micro. It will however give professionals the ability to choose the features they need. For a plumber this might be a really great solution as opposed to adding the second or third full Seesnake setup.

Now for the bad news, these are not set to be in stores until September at the earliest. I would be happy to see them by Christmas time. Ohio Power Tool is taking *Pre-Sale* orders for Seesnake microExplorer at $690.32 which basically means you will receive your Explorer in the order it was placed, like a reservation. Your credit card will not be billed until the item is ready to ship.

Power Tool Pinup Calendars

Having grown up around power tools and repair mechanics all my life I have very fond memories of going to the shop and playing with huge equipment I probably had no business near. Luckily I made it out with all my fingers. Part of those memories involves a strange phenomenon where each of the repair guys would have dozens of calendars at their benches. Why would anyone need more than one calendar? Perhaps it was the different tools showcased each month but most likely it was the nice young ladies modeling the tools that might have gotten their attention.

These days the number of annual power tool calendars printed by companies has dwindled greatly. With the consolidation of some of the companies and the increase in political correctness some companies have opted to stop printing calendars all together. I don’t think it was because they were ineffective marketing tools, as a high percentage of these calendars do end up on walls and many even stay up long after December 31st. This is much more than I can saw for any other 12 printed page of marketing material you might get on any other given day.  Ridgid Plumbing Tools continues the pinup calendar tradition started back in 1935 which many other have given up. You can order a Ridgid Calendar from ridgid.com for $10. Years ago these sat in the showrooms stacked up by the hundreds and every tool customer got one. Hopefully the tradition will continue for Ridgid and the few remaining companies that still print the pinup calendars. Plus I don’t want to see Miss Makita of get fired.

Milwaukee 2301-21 M-Spector vs. Ridgid 25643 Seesnake Micro

Milwaukee recently announced the introduction of their 2 new inspection cameras the 2301-21 and 2300-20. We had a chance recently to get our hands on the M-Spector 2301-21 and compare it with the Ridgid Seesnake Micro. Here are some of my comparisons.

The basic feel of the M-Spector is that’s actually a little larger than I previously though. The handle is thicker than the Seesnake Micro and the vertical design makes it much taller than the Micro. The thumb locations do make it much easier to change light settings and the new digital zoom feature is an advantage over the Micro. The screen sizes are the same but the Milwaukee has better resolution at 320x240 vs. 234x160 with the Micro. The case for the Milwaukee 2301-21 is the typical red hard plastic case Milwaukee makes for each product. The case is also very large because it houses the charger and battery as well. The Ridgid case is a much smaller cloth case with foam lining.

In terms of performance I felt both did a very similar job actually viewing items. I couldn’t see any difference in light strength. One problem I still have with both cameras is there is no way to change orientation of the camera so the image is constantly sideways or upside down. I did see on the Milwaukee M-Spector that it says it only allows a 9’ reach with extensions (which is only 2 extensions). The Ridgid allows up to 9 extensions for a total of 30’. The Milwaukee is digital so in theory it should be able to handle many more than 2 extensions without image loss but there is no way to test it until it comes out. I was also told the 3’ extensions are not interchangeable between Ridgid and Milwaukee. The Ridgid Seesnake, unlike the Milwaukee, does come with 3 attachments (mirror, magnet and hook) which are good for pulling wires, picking up items, etc. The final big advantage for the Milwaukee is that it works with existing 12 volt lithium ion system that includes the 2401-22 Micro Driver and many more tools to come.

Overall I think it’s a pretty even match. The Milwaukee 2301-21 is $20 more than the Seesnake but you can use the battery with your other Milwaukee tools. I think the deciding factor for me would be if I were also going to put a 2401-22 Micro Driver in the tool box than I am going with the Milwaukee. The 2300-20 (M-Spector that comes out in Aug-Sept) works off regular batteries like the Ridgid Micro and in that case I would stick with the Seesnake Micro.

You can *PRE-ORDER* the Milwaukee 2301-21 M-Spector at Ohio Power Tool for $239.99. The pre-order means you will receive the product when we receive it. There is no promised date (because these are often delayed) but the credit card or paypal will not be fully processed until the product is ready to ship, so the pre-order is similar to a reservation.

Ridgid Seesnake Locating & Utility Line Locators

When it comes to plumbing & utility locating Ridgid has to be considered the leader in the industry. Ridgid has 4 different locators depending on the specific applications. Two models are designed specifically for plumbing applications and the other two for utility applications however several models serve double duty.

Ridgid NaviTrack Scout ($1,284) – The basic Ridgid Plumbing locator is designed specifically for plumbers to find sondes and Seesnake camera heads. This model is not intended for those looking to locate plumbing or utility lines.

Ridgid NaviTrack 2 ($2,217) – This model is ideal for plumbers. It locates sondes and Seesnakes as well is also excellent at locating energized lines. The NaviTrack is very easy to learn and use thanks to the simplified display and options.

Ridgid SeekTech SR-20 ($2,217) – This is the most common utility line locator. Similar in size to the NaviTrack 2 this unit offers some advantages when locating utility lines. This unit will also locate sondes and camera heads as a secondary feature.

Ridgid SeekTech SR-60 ($2,794) – The most advanced locator Ridgid has in the lineup. This unit is closely related to the SR-20 but has a few advances features such as the ability to trace two lines at once on the display. If you’ve ever run into a situation where you hade multiple lines overlapping you will certainly appreciate this feature.

Of course Ridgid also offers several options for 5 & 10 watt transmitters, signal clamps and sondes. Red models are intended to work with plumbing locators and yellow with the utility locators. The Ridgid locators will actually work with any Ridgid transmitters and even other brands of sewer cameras and equipment; the coordinated colors are just for show.

Above is great video of the SR-20 locator which really gives you a good idea how easy these units are to use. If you have never used one of these locators I would recommend calling Ohio Power Tool at 800-242-4424 and talking to one of the professional there before making any purchases.

Seesnake Micro New Camera Head 9.5 mm

Seesnake Micro Camera Head 9.5 mm

The Seesnake Micro 25643 has been an incredibly successful product. The price is affordable, it’s easy to carry around, extremely useful and just a lot of fun. There have been a few complaints. It is after all a brand new product. Specifically customers have had problems with the heads breaking during heavy use. Also the neck is not always flexible enough for different plumbing jobs. Many of our customers have used the regular Seesnakes for years and know the Seesnakes are durable machines. I think perhaps some users got a little aggressive with their micros and had it doing jobs they maybe should have used something like a Seesnake Compact 95542 instead.

If you have found yourself in this situation there is good news. Ridgid has come out with a new 3’ camera head that is more flexible and the head is 9.5mm (current model is 17mm). Another big advantage is the new camera head will be made of aluminum, instead of plastic, so it can take more abuse without cracking. There is no immediate plan to replace the heads on all new Seesnake Micros so everyone will still need to buy the regular Micro 25643 and then also buy the 9.5mm 3’ camera head 30068.

Good news is you can pre-order the 30068 Camera Head for $99.95 at Ohio Power Tool. The bad news is it won’t arrive until May and there will only be a limited supply so if you don’t pre-order you could be waiting until mid summer before you get your hands on one.

New Hi-Tech Tools & Gadgets

Over the last year Ridgid has come out with several great new products that take some fairly advance technology and make them cheap enough for use by anyone. Three good examples of these are the IR Thermometer, Micro Seesnake and the Gas Sniffer.

IR-100

The IR-100 infrared thermometer is probably my new favorite toy around the shop. This is a great technology with an extremely convenient application and after using it for only a few times you’ll think, how did I get along without this before. There are many obvious applications for HVAC, plumbing, mechanic, electrician, home inspectors and the list goes on and on. Then of course there are those age old questions man has struggled with for years which can now be answered such as… how hot is this McDonalds coffee really?

micro seesnake

The Micro Seesnake, which hopefully everyone is pretty familiar with by now as we have mentioned it several times is another gret new hi-tech gadget. Really there was nothing around before this for the price that was so versatile. Great for plumbing, HVAC, home inspection, electrician, mechanics and everyone else, it has a million uses. For plumbing it can’t really replace the larger Seesnakes for most plumbing work but with up to 30’ of extensions and at a fraction of the cost it does save lots of lugging around the big equipment for the smaller jobs.

Gas Sniffer CG-100

The CG-100 Gas Sniffer is another great new Ridgid product. This tool makes finding combustible gas leaks very simple with an easy to read LED meter and audio or vibrate modes. Again this is a great technology with a very simple application to making many people’s job not only easier but also much safer. And at the price of only $242 it should be an obvious choice for many toolboxes.

Best Place to Talk Power Tools

Where can I go to talk about power tools? Obviously the internet is full of great resources about all sorts of things but what are the best forums for talking about power tools? It’s not always easy to find what you want when using the search engines; sometimes it’s best to ask the questions in a forum full or knowledgeable people.

There really are not many forums specifically for Power Tools however there are many good places to discuss topics about what the tools are used for. For instance, if you are looking for information on Bosch Routers your best bet would be to look for woodworking forums which there are several great forums.
Woodnet.net
Woodworking.com
Woodworkingtalk.com

The best forum to talk strait power tools would have to be the Ridgid Forum  which is probably a little bias towards Ridgid seeing as all the moderators get their paychecks from them. That being said they still allow people to talk openly and don’t remove negative reviews, from what I’ve seen. There are all sorts of threads on Bosch, Milwaukee, Porter Cable, DeWalt and many other brands as well. The forum also has great discussion topics for Plumbers, Electricians, Construction and Woodworking.

The Thomasnet Forum is another good forum which is starting to reach critical mass. A little spammy at this point but I think it’ll shape up and be a good resource for many of the industries they currently serve such as Aerospace, Automation/Robotics, Machine Shops, Fabricators, Manufacturing and many others. Thomasnet is a huge directory resource for many companies.

If you would like to mention any other good forums for talking power tools post a comment and let everyone know!

Top 7 New Power Tools of 2007

Below are the top 7 new tools of the year. Obviously everyone will have their own opinions but this is an overall composition of our opinions with customer reviews and insight.

1. Ridgid SeeSnake Micro – The SeeSnake Micro is not like any other tool you have in your garage. It’s a 3 foot long waterproof snaking camera with a light on the end. With it you can look into walls, ducts, heating & cooling units, engines, pipes, drains and any other confined space. Additional 3 foot extensions are also available. It would be nice if in the future you could take some kind of picture with this but that’s about my biggest complaint. This is a very handy tool and has a wide variety of uses. More than anything it is really just lots of fun to play with.

2. Bosch Breaker 11335K – The 11335K Breaker Hammer is the newest Bosch electric demolition tool. This is a great addition to the existing arsenal of SDS-Max hammer drills & Bosch Brute tools. At only 35 lbs. this jack hammer is very versatile with vertical, angled or horizontal positioning. I had to make this one of the top tools of the year because who doesn’t feel like a bad ass using a jack hammer horizontally? Like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Total Recall.

3. IR Mini Air Tools – Ok so this is really a whole line of air tools but I was having trouble picking just one of these new Ingersoll Rand tools and they are pretty cheap so buying the whole line is still very reasonable. These are great tools all around, perfect for home user or professionals looking for compact tools to fit into those hard to reach places. Mini Grinder - Mini Drill/Driver - Mini Sander - Mini Polisher

4. Milwaukee V18 Battery – How can a Battery be one of the top new tools for 2007? It is because the V18 Lithium Ion battery works with all your previous Milwaukee 18 volt Ni-Cad tools. If you already have several 18 volt tools or a combo kit you can upgrade to Lithium Ion for $179 (see previous article). Additionally the charger still charges your old batteries so you can use them as back ups.

5. IQv Cordless Impact – Ingersoll Rand’s new line of IQv cordless tools is pretty impressive. Everyone knows IR as the trusted name for air tools and especially impact wrenches but not necessarily electric or cordless tools. The IQv line really had some big shoes to fill and I think they did an excellent job. You have a wide selection of IQv impacts powered by Lithium or NiCd in either 14.4V or 19.2V. The IQv line also includes other tools common to IR users such as grinders, drills and ratchets which can use the same batteries and chargers.

6. Bosch 36V Circular Saw 1671K – Obviously everyone has seem a cordless circular saw before so why would I include the 1671K? Simply put this is the first cordless circular saw I would actually want to bring to a job site. In my mind cordless circular saws are still not an alternative to a good corded saw because saws need lots of juice. Previous cordless saws were good for 4-5 cuts which is a joke if you are building anything larger than a door stop. The 36 volt Bosch is good for at least 20 which if you have a few extra batteries and a good corded miter saw or portable table saw should be extremely useful on any jobsite. Around the house with an extra battery the 1671K by itself would get most jobs done without any down time.

7. Milwaukee 12V Micro Driver – There seems to be a theme here with the micro & mini tools. Everything gets smaller but at the same time more powerful and the 2401-22 is no exception. It’s not a secret Milwaukee created the Micro driver to compete directly with the very successful Bosch PS20-2 & PS40-2 (I’m sure we’ll see a micro impact shortly) and with good reason. The Lithium Ion tools have added seriously power and battery life making it possible to have small tools that can do big jobs. Plus I think this thing just looks cool.

Ridgid SeeSnake Micro - Cat #25643

Ridgid recently released a new product that is getting a lot of attention and generating a good amount of orders, currently on back order. These handy little seesnakes cost a mere $215 (from ohiopowertool.com) while their big brothers often cost in the thousands. The SeeSnake Micro will in no way replace the traditional SeeSnake used for pipe inspection however it will definitely come in handy in certain situations. This tool is also very versatile and can be used in other places including crawl spaces, attics, engines, walls, heating ducts, etc. This will most likely become a standard tool everyone will find useful.

The new RIDGID SeeSnake Micro inspection camera allows you to easily perform visual inspections in hard to reach areas. Its lightweight, handheld design means that it can be carried anywhere – providing solutions when and where you need them, while allowing you to offer more services and increase productivity.
