Several months back we had mentioned how Bosch has been setting up Bosch System Specialist or BSS Dealers around the country. In addition to some pretty nice displays and additional support these stores have also seen some really great deals. Currently there are 2 new deals which can actually be taken advantage of simultaneously however the catch is again these deals are good in-store only at select BSS locations.

About a year ago we did a full review of the Bosch Power Box PB360S where we tested battery life, digital media functionality and of course how well it pumped up a crowd. Since that time this radio has seen a lot more action camping, tailgating, barbeques, sporting events and even a little work in there. Rain never a concern and when it gets dirty we have literally hosed is off (a gentle covering not blasting into the controls or anything). Definitely the best all around portable radio we have ever used and it’s not even the Deluxe PB360D ($239, Ohio Power Tool) model.

We have had a chance to use these new blades and can say there definitely is a big improvement in terms of durability and usefulness in demo applications. At one point not long ago Fein MultiMaster enjoyed a literal monopoly on the oscillating tool market. They ran infomercials and sold these units around $400 with accessories ranging from $20-$50+ a pop. Over the past 2 years however that has all changed as many more players have come into the market. You can pick up a Harbor store version for very cheap, possibly less than the money you spent on the gas to drive there and back.

Earlier this week we were at a Milwaukee Tool event where we got to see all the cool new tools coming out later this year but also had some time to learn a little more about the products Milwaukee currently has out on the shelves. One of those product lines was the Milwaukee Test & Measure Tools which are available as part of the Milwaukee M12 line or as regular Alkaline Tools. Typically the regular battery tools are going to be the more general purpose meters & tools while the M12 tools are going to provide some advanced features. One instance is the regular Temp Gun ($149, Ohio Power Tool) has a temperature range from -20 to 932 with the M12 Temp Gun ($369, Ohio Power Tool) goes -40 to 1472 & provides a humidity measurement.

Price comparison websites are not new by any means however www.Tools.com is the first I know that was specifically built for power tools, hand tools and accessories. There is a large selection of participating internet retailers such as Northern Tool, Amazon, Tool Barn, Tool King, Ohio Power Tool, CPO sites, and several others. The site claims over 90,000 tools from 500 brands. Since the site is still fairly new the reviews haven’t gotten filled in on many of the products yet (only 125 total thus far) but I am pretty confident over time these will be a really good resource for unbiased reviews. Perhaps they should give away Free T-shirts when you write 5 reviews like www.ToolCritic.com.

Milwaukee Tool just announced the next generation of portable band saws. The new Milwaukee Band Saw 6232-6N is 40% faster than the previous Milwaukee models and 20% faster than the closest competitor, the Dewalt DWM120K. The Milwaukee motor was updated from a 6 amp to a 10.5 amp motor and is now the most powerful on the market. The improvements don’t stop there, with aluminum motor housing, better saw balance, 2 finger trigger, variable speed dial, improved blade protection and new bearings this is a very solidly built band saw.

The band saw’s deep cutting capacity is 4-7/8” however it can cut up to 6” round pipe when rotating. The improved T handle grip not only allows for comfortable operation but also allows the tool to lock into a vise for stationary cutting. Another nice feature for those who maintain many of these units and are thinking about upgrading some of them, is that up to 80% of the parts are interchangeable. This means if you have brushings, pulleys or other parts they will work in the new & old models.

Until the end of the year you can get free tools from Bosch simply by ordering the accessories you would need anyway. Each $250 increment gets you to the next level of free tools. With a $1000 order you can even get a 4 tool 18v Combo Kit. Yea, a grand is a lot to spend on new Bosch DareDevil Spade Bits or T308B super clean jigsaw blades which have been very popular items recently. The Ingersoll Rand IQv Cordless power tool line has found a serious following among the automotive crowds and many others. These tools are engineered for use in professional shop and manufacturing facilities. The whole system is very intelligently designed with cheaper NiCd and Lithium batteries that work with each voltage of tools, all which share the single charger and flashlight that work with all of them.  

We are continuing to be happily surprised with some of Milwaukee’s decisions for launching the new M12 & M18 tools. As the new Bosch 18V Litheon tools hit the shelves over the next few weeks the prices of the Bosch 36V Litheon will be going back to normal. Some of the tools have already gone back such as the CPK41-36 4 tool kit at $781.00 or the Bosch Hammer Drill 18636-01 at $404. If you are still looking to get your hands on the best 36V tools for really cheap no fear there are still a few deals out there.

For the month of September at Ohio Power Tool you can get free shipping on all Ridgid seesnakes, locators, inspection equipment and transmitters. That includes pre-sales on the Ridgid Explorer, Seesnake Micro and all the accessories. In addition to free shipping, the Micro also includes a free 3’ extension 26658 which normally sell for around $50. The free extension deal is good until November 15^th which is about the same time the second generation Micro will be released. The new Micro will get updated thumb controls and a different hard plastic case but it will also be slightly more expensive ($239 same price as Milwaukee M-Spector) honestly I would rather probably have the current model with a free 3’ extension. For professionals you might just want to step it up and get the Seesnake Explorer ($690) to have the ability to record images & video. In very non-customary fashion some of the Milwaukee M12 tool kits have actually shipped well before the target October 1^st launch date. After previous delays in receiving new products I think Milwaukee has final figured out the formula: under promise, over deliver. These two kits are the M12 launch specials and will only be available for a short time. Don’t be expecting these to be around after October anywhere.  

The M-Spector kit 2310-21P features the two tools currently available but for $269 that is about $100 less than their individual price. It includes a case which fits both tools together, 2 batteries, charger, M-Spector & Micro Driver.

The M12 Impact Kit 2490-23 features 2 new tools the impact & flashlight as well as the Micro Driver currently available. The individual impact and flashlight will still not be available until the official October 1st launch but you can get them early with this kit. Price on this kit is $199 at Ohio Power Tool.  

These two M12 Launch kit are available now but the other M12 tools and kits will not be available until October 1, and now I have a little more faith we will actually get them on time. The launch kits will again only be available for a very short time, my guess is these will all be gone very soon.

Back in July we posted on these tools in their European versions (see here). Finally the Bosch Brute Tough Lithium Tools are here, well soon at least. These have been long anticipated and probably not a coincidence these tools will be released almost exactly at the same time as the new Milwaukee M18 line of tools. The Bosch Brute Drills have been the preferred cordless drill of choice by many for some time. The delay in coming to market with a Brute 18V may have caused some to switch brands but hopefully not too many. Bosch is making up for lost time with one of the most powerful 18 volt tools we have seen. The new hammer drill has 650 in/lbs and 0-475/2,050 RPM well above the current competition. The battery system will be similar to the 36 volt tools with SlimPacks and FatPack options.

The only down side of the release of new Bosch 14.4 and 18 volt tools is this means no more amazing deals on Bosch 36 volt which we have seen all summer long. Since Bosch didn’t have an equivalent 18 volt product they rewarded all their loyal users with 36 volt tools at 18 volt prices. A hammer drill kit for instance can still be picked up for $249 while a 4 tool combo is still only $497. These prices are part of a limited time promo and will go back up in September before the new tools are released.    

The new 14.4 & 18V tools both Brute Tough and Compact Tough can be pre-ordered at Ohio Power Tool and will be shipped in early October. We will all patiently wait for the different saws, lights and other tools that will work with these systems to be released.

If you haven’t picked up one of the Bosch 10.8V tools yet, now is the perfect time because you will get a free tool! Purchase any of the driver kits PS10-2, PS20-2 or PS40-2 and you can mail-in to receive a FREE PS20. The free tool is a bare tool only so you don’t get batteries, charger or carrying case but it’s still a great deal. It’s a tough decision between the i-drive PS10-2 or Impactor PS40-2 they are both great tools but I would probably go with the Impactor. Bosch is planning to release additional tools expected to hit shelves soon which will work on the same battery system. I would expect to see some new cutting tools, drills and probably some different woodworking or craft type tools. The 10.8V battery is great but probably won’t be powering a 6.5” circular saws anytime in the future.

The Titan Milwaukee Work Carts came out well over a year ago and has served many of us very well. Around the internet you will see these selling for $300-600+ depending on the model. The main difference in the two models is the 48-60-5015 has a lockable cabinet on the bottom shelf while the 48-60-5010 is open on the bottom. Both carts have a lockable drawer and work with the same add-on accessories. Milwaukee made an entire site to showcase how these carts can be configured and videos to show how well these carts are built.
