Bosch Core Socket-Ready Brushless Impactor IDH182-02L

*Update 11/25/2013 – Socket Ready Impacts & new brushless drills are available for Pre-Order from Ohio Power Tool, target ship date February 2014, see Bosch 18V Tools.

In our post about the STAFDA conference, we mentioned the new Bosch socket-ready 18V impact driver they had on display. Well, Bosch has released a bunch of new pictures and information about the tool on their website. So here are all the gooey details.

The new core series has a brushless motor system with 30% more power, and new 4.0 Ah batteries that will deliver a quoted 65% longer runtime. The tool also features on board electronics for power management and extended tool life. These features are all interesting and constitute a significant upgrade, but the real star of the show is the “Socket Ready” chuck.

The socket ready chuck allows the user to seamlessly change between 1/4″ screwdriver bits and 1/2″ sockets without the need for special adapters or attachments. In my book, this makes the tool a winner in itself, but when coupled with the upgrades to the motor and battery the tool moves into the territory of stuff that I drool over, or maybe something that a cologne is named after.

Along with he Impact Driver, Bosch Core line also has an SDS-Plus rotary hammer with chiseling action that is already on shelves. This has a brushless motor, like the impact driver, but does not have theĀ  4.0 Ah batteries (yet) or the chuck that I am still fawning over. You can get you 18V Cordless Brushless SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drill for just shy of $500 at Ohio Power Tool (who is running a current special on Bosch Products), and don’t forget that you can call a pro with you tool questions at (800) 242-4424.
