Often times Bosch will launch different products in Europe than they will in the USA for a variety of reasons. They’ve had Bosch cordless chain saws and lawnmowers for almost 10 years and no matter how many times we ask they still won’t bring them over. Our personal favorite is the Miter/Table Saw hybrid GTM12 we originally posted on 2008 which we are certain would never come here but would love to own. The latest tool we spotted in the UK social media feed is the New Bosch Router GOF 1250 LCE Professional which has several interesting changes.
First the configuration on the pistol grip on one side and traditional knob on the other seems like this could be a very logical way to configure a router, although it may take some getting used to. While you certainly need to use both hands with any router it would make sense to have the dominant hand as the steering hand, especially for more pushing type of applications.
The second feature is the digital depth gauge built into the router itself. Of course for router table and other applications there are aftermarket digital depth gauges available but to build it right into the router provides an additional level of precision down to the 1/10mm which is not going to be visible to the naked eye.
There is a lot of pride in the craft of woodworking and this router may be a tough sell for some. It would target a group made up of what we would consider a pretty hardcore woodworker looking to really get very precise with their work but taking out the group of skeptics who probably won’t believe the readout is accurate or who take pride in knowing the manual adjustments that wouldn’t want to go digital. You may not think this will do anything but if they get similar requests even a handful of times it’s get noticed.
