Bosch Duel-Bevel Glide Miter Saw 10” CM10GD vs Bosch 12” GCM12SD

Bosch 10" Glide Saw

Only a few short years ago the folks at Bosch released the very popular 12” Glide Saw GCM12SD ($799, Ohio Power Tool) which continues to be the choice of many woodworkers and professionals. What the original glide saw did very well provide a very wide cutting capacity without having to take any space behind the saw for additional rails. For work shop situations this is huge as it can free up 10-15” of otherwise wasted space, if the miter station has long outriggers on either side that could mean 10 or more sq ft in a work shop!

With several years on the market the long term performance has been outstanding for these 12” miter saws. By completely sealing the bearings in the axial glide mechanism we have seen much improved long term performance as compared to almost any railed saw where the rails/bearing are exposed to saw dust and other debris. The accuracy of these saws have also maintain better than we have seen with other rail systems with both professional woodworkers in a shop situation and with construction professionals going on and off the jobsite every day.

Bosch Glide Saw

Where the biggest shortcoming of these saws is in weight, for this new 10” Glide Saw CM10GD ($699, Ohio Power Tool) this short coming is actually amplified. Because of the heavy duty nature of the axial glide mechanism we really don’t see much weight lost going from 12″ to the smaller 10″ which is pretty common for other saws. The 10” glide is within a 1lb of the larger saw because it essentially uses the same Glide mechanism with same motor and very similar base. For those on the move constantly this weight could be a deal killer, however for those looking for one of the highest quality 10” saws at arguably the best value out there this is a winner.

Bosch 8" Miter Saw CM8S

If portability is your focus Bosch has also recently announced a very good option in a compact 8.5” miter saws CM8S ($469, Ohio Power Tool). This saw utilizes a rail system to be able to cross cut up to 2”x12” and will travel very well at only 37lbs. We expect this to saw to launch within the next 2 months so really a couple very nice bench top units from Bosch before the end of this year! More info to come on the CM8S as we get closer to that launch.
