Bosch 18V Metal-Cutting Circular Saw CSM180

Metal-cutting circular saws are becoming more and more well-known by trades-people, and it’s easy to see why. Their ‘cold-cut’ produces little burring, fast cutting speeds, few sparks and of course, no heat.

It should be of no surprise then that Bosch have produced a cordless, light-weight metal saw for the job site. The CSM180 has a 5-3/8″ blade, with a cut depth of up to 2″. It weighs only 5.8 lbs with a high capacity 18V battery, and is extremely ergonomic in the hand. It is available as a bare tool CSM180B ($199) or in a kit with two 4Ah batteries CSM180-01 ($349).

Bosch SDS-Plus Speed Clean Concrete Bits

Bosch Speed Clean

The Bosch Speed Clean Bits have been around for a few years now, originally called the “Hollow Core” but that name probably causes confusion with actual core bits. The Speed Clean bits work differently than you traditional rotary hammer bits in that it connects to a vacuum and sucks the dust out as it drills. This makes these bits much more efficient and last longer especially when drilling at depths however it also makes the bits much more expensive to manufacturer. We have not seem mass adoption on the jobsites yet but that could all change next month (September 23rd) when the OSHA Silica Standards become enforceable. (more…)

Easy Build Projects – Pallet Barn Doors

Pallet projects have been trending over the last several years, especially with DIY’ers. Plans are easily accessible through YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Google and more! With pallets typically free, there are thousands cool designs available; from furniture to wine racks to pallet doors, there’s no surprise these types of projects have been so appealing to our society.

We recently did a test of 5 Brushless Recip Saws Head to Head and instead of mindlessly killing a ton of 2x4s we decided to build a simple project that would require a fair amount of prep work. With tons of pallets available at our shop, we got the idea to spruce up our workshop doors and to fill it in with pallet wood. We quickly learned that not only was it much more enjoyable, the difficultly level was fairly low. Originally we were going after a herringbone design but after a little testing decided to move forward with a chevron configuration which looks nearly as great but even easier to line up. Good news is we have plenty of broken down pallet wood for future projects as well! (more…)

2017 Brushless Recip Saw Shootout – Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee

Sawzall Comparisons

A couple years ago we did the 2015 Recip Saw Shootout which was sort of a no contest because at the time Milwaukee was the only tool company that had a brushless recip saw. Naturally the only brushless saw won going against 4 brushed saws and we got accused of being on the Milwaukee Tool payroll. A few years later now that most of the other brands have brushless options its well proven brushless options outperform their brushed counterparts, Milwaukee was just well ahead of the curve in 2015. It’s now 2017 however so we’ve got new batteries and 5 new saws!

Cordless Power Tools – Amp x Volts = Watts

Volts Amps Watts Meter

In recent years there have been a lot of advancements that allow tools to work effectively at various voltages as well as batteries with dramatically higher Amp Hours (Ah). Unfortunately that’s all the tool brands want to talk about in terms of specs on these awesome tool achievements, Volts and Ah but clearly that does not tell the full story. The formula Amps * Volts = Watts is what we use to figure out power and works great with corded tools on our meter above. With battery tools if you are only provided Volts and Ah ratings (or Watt Hour Wh) unfortunately you’re never going to be able to determine the real power of your tools.      (more…)

Donald J Trump can Save the Bosch Reaxx Saw

TrumpReaxx

The Bosch Reaxx Saw has been ruled against in the International Trade Commission (ITC) case disputing patent issues with SawStop and the only one who can overturn the ruling is Donald J Trump himself (let him know what you think #TrumpREAXX). He has 60 days to review the case and veto this exclusion order. It’s in his hands now… but it’s not looking good. (more…)

SawStop Wins Lawsuit with Bosch Reaxx Saw

Sawstop Wins Lawsuit

A few months back there was a bit of a premature back and forth between Bosch and SawStop however it looks as though SawStop was accurate in their early celebration. As the January 27th ruling is that Bosch must “Cease and Desist from conducting any of the following activities in the United States: importing, selling, marketing, advertising, distributing, transferring (except for exportation), and soliciting United States agents or distributors for imported [Reaxx] table saws.” (more…)

Dust Collection Vacuums for OSHA Silica Rules

**** OSHA UPDATE 4/7/2017 – New OSHA Deadline is September 23, 2017 for Silica Dust Compliance as there was a 90 day extension added.

As the OSHA’s silica June 23, 2017 compliance deadline is rapidly approaching, do you know which dust collection vacuum complies? Do you know how often filters need to be changed? Do you know the filter efficiency standard? If you answered no to any of these questions, don’t worry, in today’s Coptool post we will discuss OSHA’s silica regulation and approved products to ensure you’re in compliance!

OSHA has issued two standards in an effort to protect millions of construction workers from crystalline silica – one for construction and the other for general industry and maritime. Throughout this post, we will be focusing on the construction standard. OSHA recognizes that current silica regulations do not provide adequate protection for construction workers. With the new standard, OSHA is reducing the permissible exposure limit to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air over 8 hour time weighted average. Basically 1/5 of the previous standard of 250 micrograms per cubic meter of air over 8 hour time weighted average. Check out the Pulse-Bac Vacuum video above, they do the best job we have seen for outlining the basic details.
