Inside Look: Milwaukee M18 Threaded Rod Cutter 2872-21

Only a few weeks ago we announced the launch of the Milwaukee M18 Threaded Rod Cutter 2872-21 with this post and video. We had only a little time with it before posting this intro and while we love tools and use lots of them, we are not qualified to give real user feedback on a Threaded Rod Cutter like this. We took this tool over to our friends at Mid-City Electric in their Pre-Fab Shop where they cut literally thousands of feet of threaded rod and that we knew were running the Dewalt 20V Threaded Rod Cutter DCS350 already.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 6” Grinders w/Brake 2980-22

M18 Grinders 2980-22

Ever since launching their 7”-9” M18 FUEL 7”/9” grinder 2785-21HD last year we’ve been asking where is the 6” grinder? For professional trades a more compact 6” grinder really is the perfect solution and 6” slicer wheels and grinder wheels are much more popular than the monster 7” or 9”. It looks like Milwaukee has done a lot of things right here and almost guaranteed this unit will become very popular here is why.

Inside Look: Milwaukee’s M12 3-Inch Cut-Off Tool 2522

We first found this tool at NPS 2018, and everyone was impressed with “the little cut-off tool that could.” And by that I mean, it could cut through all sorts of metal, tile, and construction materials, despite being on Milwaukee’s smaller 12V battery platform. Spinning at 20,000 RPMs, this flexible addition to the M12 family of tools is designed to be used with only one hand. It ships with a Carbide Abrasive blade, Diamond Tile blade, a metal cut off wheel, and a handy shoe guard complete with a dust collection port.  (more…)

Milwaukee M18 Switch Tank Backpack Sprayers

Another huge launch from Milwaukee Tool this week, stepping into a new category with a ton of applications for concrete and landscape professionals. Shocking to us this and other huge launches are all coming out before the big #NPS19 event which leads us to ask, what is bigger than these are they saving to launch at the event? This M18 Switch Tank System really is going to be a game changer and has a ton of very smart features. Of course being on one of the most popular battery platforms is a huge advantage over anything out now but they did some very smart things here including building the tanks & hoses to be completely self-contained so there is no chance of mixing chemicals anywhere in the tank, pump, hose or wand.

M18 Switch Tank Water

Basically there is one M18 Switch Tank Base and 3 tank options (pesticide, concrete chemical, water supply) depending on which tank you want first you’re looking at $399-$439 for the kit which includes 1x 3.0Ah battery (enough charge for 12 tanks). From there additional tanks are $149-$164 so it’s very easy to keep everything totally separate. Many of the Kits will be launching early March, Pre-Sale up on Ohio Power Tool M18 Tools page starting February 1st if not sooner. (more…)

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2” Pipe Threader 2874-22HD

M18 Pipe Threader

For as long as we can remember the Ridgid Power Pony 700 ($1400) has been the standard in mobile pipe threading for ½” – 2” pipe. Others have made similar versions but none have come anywhere near the Power Pony for popularity and performance. The one and only drawback that continuously comes up however, in 2019 a tool designed for portability needs to be you know, portable which means cordless. The team at Milwaukee hopes to capitalize on this short coming and fill the need with the M18 FUEL Pipe Threader w/ONE-KEY 2874-22HD. This unit will use the very common 12R die heads so will be compatible with all your current Ridgid 12R Threading Die Heads you likely already own in various sizes.

Milwaukee 12R Die Heads

Announced at the AHR Expo today but not going to be hitting the Market until summer 2019, Pre-Sale will be up early on Ohio Power Tool under Milwaukee M18 Tools, no pricing info yet but stay tuned for #NPS19 where there will likely be much more info, in the meantime check out the full Milwaukee press release below. Milwaukee M18 Threaded Rod Cutter 2872-21

When it comes to commercial electricians and mechanical contractors working with threaded rod is a part of life, one thing is clear there is a lot of cutting that needs to be made. For an occasional user, no big deal bandsaw or even a grinder will get the job done, although might leave a burr and/or create unwanted sparks. For heavy users when dealing with large high rises or acres of data-centers a specialty tool is really a must have. The Milwaukee M18 Brushless Threaded Rod cutter 2872-21, launching in March 2019 for around $399 Kit, $329 Bare Tool 2872-20 could potentially pay for itself in a matter of days.

M18 Threaded Rod Cutter

Saving a lot of time with quick, burr-free, nut ready, cuts this unit really is ideal for overhead use or lying down on any flat surface. Check out our video above as well as full Milwaukee Press Release below, more info to follow and Pre-Orders will be available on Ohio Power Tool under Milwaukee M18 Tools very soon. (more…)

Portable Bandsaw Blades – Milwaukee Extreme Metal

You saw the title, Portable Bandsaw Blades, and decided that’s an article worth reading, you’re my kind of people. It’s admitably not a topic that’ll keep most people on the edge of their seat but for those who’ve spent 10+ hours straight hanging strut and threaded rod, a faster cutting blade with 1/3 the blade changes may hit close to home. Milwaukee has been the most popular tool brand for portable band saws for decades, offering a full line up; corded Deep Cut 6232-20, M18 FUEL Deep Cut 2729-21, M18 Compact 2629-20 or even the newer M12 Sub-Compact 2429-21XC which is great for threaded rod or rebar.

Extreme Metal Milwaukee Bandsaw

While Milwaukee has been the leaders on the tool side, MK Morse and Lenox have been more popular on the actual replacement blades with standard bi-metal and high performance options like the Lenox Wolf-Band or MK Morse Cobalt 811 band saw blades. Milwaukee hopes to change all that with their new Milwaukee Extreme Metal Blades which fit all sizes of their saws with Thick Metal 8/10 TPI and Thin Metal 12/14 TPI options that will be added to their current standard bi-metal options.
