Is Milwaukee Getting into Dentist Tools?

Mechanics Pick Tools

It certainly looks like Milwaukee Tools might be going into dentistry but good mechanics have been using hooks & picks probably as long as dentists and look nearly identical. The above set is from the repair department at Ohio Power Tool and are one of their most frequently used tools. There is one big issue that they told us which causes them all to fail, pullout. The metal part is held in by cheap glue or a crimp and after a little use they fall apart. The above set has already been recrimped several times.    (more…)

2017 Brushless Recip Saw Shootout – Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee

Sawzall Comparisons

A couple years ago we did the 2015 Recip Saw Shootout which was sort of a no contest because at the time Milwaukee was the only tool company that had a brushless recip saw. Naturally the only brushless saw won going against 4 brushed saws and we got accused of being on the Milwaukee Tool payroll. A few years later now that most of the other brands have brushless options its well proven brushless options outperform their brushed counterparts, Milwaukee was just well ahead of the curve in 2015. It’s now 2017 however so we’ve got new batteries and 5 new saws!

New Empire Digital Levels e105 & em105 Magnetic

Empire EM105.24

Empire has had digital levels for some time as the e100 series but these new series e105 and em105 bring some nice improvements which really make these arguably some of the best digital levels around. Historically digital levels have been required to verify grade for certain tasks such as setting ADA pads on sidewalks or wheelchair ramp spec in a project. We are however seeing digital levels becoming more and more common place simply for accuracy of any task, setting hand rails on stairs, putting a slight slope on a floor, looking for perfect .00 level, etc. It’s a digital world, if you are looking for accuracy in a level and willing to spend $99-$199 range, certainly you should consider going totally digital.

Behind The Scenes Tour – Milwaukee Sawzall Manufacturing U.S. Plant

Coptool had the privilege in touring Milwaukee’s Sawzall manufacturing facility in Greenwood Mississippi. We had the opportunity to see their manufacturing processes, printing capabilities, engineering processes as well as understand the culture in Greenwood. Produced in the same facility, we saw step by step, how their world class Hole Dozers were made and engineered. Being the first time Milwaukee invited media guest to Greenwood, Milwaukee’s president of Power Tool Accessories, Scott Griswold kicked off the event in style!

OSHA Silica Deadline Pushed 90 Days, 9/23/17

Bosch Silica Training

The original deadline for issuing OSHA fines was June 23rd however with that deadline very near the amount of unanswered questions and many tasks that still not having good solutions OSHA has announced everyone will get an additional 90 days before fines will begin. (OHSA full press release) This is good news, manufacturers of solutions to control silica dust are just now finishing testing, releasing products and as they come out are seeing immediate back orders. Training thousands and thousands of effected workers is also not an easy task and will take some time, even with the extra 90 days it will be a challenge. (more…)

Milwaukee WorkSkin – Summer Clothing

Milwaukee WorkSkin

What does a tool manufacturer know about clothing? Other than an occasional free red hat should we really be buying clothing from the same people we get our Sawzall blades from? Milwaukee sort of tiptoed into the clothing business about 7 years ago with the Heated Jackets and were able to overcome some obstacles in the power and heating elements other big names in the apparel world couldn’t figure out. Since then the actual jackets themselves have undergone several significant overhauls and the line has expanded greatly into a layering system adding the WorkSkin Mid-Weight Base Layer 401G ($49) last season. Building on that success Milwaukee is making their first leap into apparel for the warmer weather with WorkSkin Light Weight to address heat stress issues. (more…)

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Metal Circular Saw 2782-22

M18 FUEL Metal Circular Saw

The Milwaukee 8” metal saw 6370-21 ($299) changed the game many years ago and made the circular saw tailored for metal cutting the preferred choice for make cutting pipe, conduit, etc. When Milwaukee M18 launched it was not long after the cordless M18 brushed model 2682-22 ($349) was launched in a more compact 5-3/8” design. Fast forward a few years now and the demand for more power, runtime and option for large capacity lead to the new M18 FUEL 2782-22 ($399) & 2782-20 ($199, bare) which we expect to see in April. Cordless Power Tools – Amp x Volts = Watts

Volts Amps Watts Meter

In recent years there have been a lot of advancements that allow tools to work effectively at various voltages as well as batteries with dramatically higher Amp Hours (Ah). Unfortunately that’s all the tool brands want to talk about in terms of specs on these awesome tool achievements, Volts and Ah but clearly that does not tell the full story. The formula Amps * Volts = Watts is what we use to figure out power and works great with corded tools on our meter above. With battery tools if you are only provided Volts and Ah ratings (or Watt Hour Wh) unfortunately you’re never going to be able to determine the real power of your tools.      (more…)
