While at the 2017 New Product Symposium this year, we saw some pretty impressive innovations in plumbing tools and technology from Milwaukee. Milwaukee has made some game-changing improvements on some of their existing plumbing tools, but also introduced some industry-first tools that have never been seen before. They have made an impressive step forward for M12 Drain Cleaning & M18 Drain Cleaning. We are very excited to see how these new tools we saw perform against the current competition.
Milwaukee is continuing to show its dominance in the marketplace by providing innovative, problem-solving solutions for professionals. Just announced, they introduced a a game-changing solution for unclogging toilets, urinals and floor traps for service plumbers and facility maintenance professionals. The new TRAPSNAKE Porcelain Auger System is scheduled to be released in March. Utilizing the M12 battery technology, professional plumbers will have the luxury using a powerful, yet compact tool , that is light weight and delivers superior results. While some plumbing tools may require the M18 battery, the M18 chargers were engineered to all charge the M12’s at the same time. (more…)
RIDGID will soon be lightening tool bags and easing PEX connections with the release of the PEX-ONE Cordless Press Tool. Boasting a 30% lighter design, the RIDGID PEX-ONE enables quick and easy connections overhead and in tight spaces. Designed for one-handed use, the PEX-ONE weighs only 5 pounds, has a 5 second crimp cycle and MSRP is expected at $675 which is inline with other automatic options. Its 12V battery provides over 150 crimp cycles and the quick change head makes for quick die changes. It is compatible with ASTM F1807 copper crimp ring fittings and in the near future Viega PureFlow® fittings.
The new RIDGID SeeSnake Monitor CS65x ($3907) really provides a mobile workstation to document your inspections while you are working on them. Full keyboard allows you to type in all the customer’s info and make notes. You can record the inspection in several ways, photo, video or PhotoTalk which is a photo with audio commentary over them. Once everything is recorded onto the 128 GB solid state hard drive in HQ Software it can easily be sent to customer via email or put on a USB or sent off to be printed, added to DVD or any number of other formats. By utilizing WiFi or BlueTooth you can easily pair with any mobile device or network for internet connectivity.
For the RIDGID 2017 Calendars they have made the change to feature 12 artist’s renderings of Pipe Wrenches instead of the iconic Pinup Girls. I like the graphics, if the calendar were a new promo idea from a company I would think it was pretty cool idea. Of course going from a 50 year tradition for beautiful ladies on the wall of the shop to drawings of pipe wrenches is not going to sit well with everyone. This has been a change several years coming and with the move towards a more PC work place should not come as much of a surprise.
For November & December there are some very aggressive Milwaukee Deals designed specifically to put M18 9.0Ah batteries into your hands. The 48-11-1890 sells for $200, it’ll probably stay that price all next year and we think it’s well worth it but you’d be crazy to buy one. Only a few years ago Milwaukee was a small fry in the cordless game, they got aggressive to become top potato these days but competition is now heating up with many others. Milwaukee solution, 9.0Ah batteries for EVERYONE!!!
One great way into a couple larger batteries is the M18 FUEL miter saw 2734-21HD ($599), which will come with 1 battery normally but for the next couple months or until they all sell out you’ll get 2x of the 9.0Ah monsters. Weight obviously plays no part in how this tool functions so it’s a great partner for the bigger batteries but honestly this saw will work for hours on even a 5.0Ah. (more…)
Several of the power tool companies have launched inspection cameras with varying degree of success. With Milwaukee Tool’s focus so much on the Plumbing and Mechanical trades the need to offer a great inspection camera on the M12 Battery Platform is pretty critical. The redesigned M-Spector, now known as the M-Spector Flex is offered in 3 configurations with basic 3’ head 2315-21 ($479), 9” head 2316-21 ($499) and finally the long awaited PivotView Head 2317-21 ($699). Of course the heads are interchangeable so if you start with the base model you can always get the Pivot Head later.
Chalk this one up in the “why didn’t I think of that” category. The new Ridgid Straplock 42478 ($25) is an ideal tool for handling 3” – 8” PVC pipe and fittings. Super easy to adjust for different size pipe in seconds, just pull the slack. Ideal for aligning pipe, check out the video to see extended setup time, makes a lot of sense.
Check out all the Ridgid Plumbing tools and if you have any questions give the pros at Ohio Power Tool 800-242-4424 a call and they would be more than happy to help you find the right tool for the job.
The Milwaukee cordless drain snake has been a long awaited addition for many in the plumbing and maintenance trades. The M12 Drain Snake 2571-21 ($249) includes a 25’ x 5/16” bulb cable, battery, charger and 5 gallon bucket which is very handy for transport and storage. Some plumbers we talked with were concerned the M12 platform would not have enough power and were also concerned about what would the run time be like in the field. We gave the product to a plumbing professional and our friend, Tom from SewerQuest to try it out with his crew.
