A few months back we had the opportunity to check out all the new Jet & Powermatic tools for 2013. One of the big hits since its launch has been the 8” bench grinder JWBG-8 ($239, Ohio Power Tool) designed specifically for sharpening wood working tools. The low 1,725 RPM coupled with large tool rest and high quality Norton Wheels make this a terrific unit out of the box.
Not only has it been a good seller it has received terrific reviews from the pros, here is what Fine Woodworking’s Chris Gochnour had to say: “When I reviewed a full range of 8-in., slow-speed grinders in 2012 (“Bench Grinders for Woodworkers,”FWW #226), many of the machines had bright spots but none possessed the full package—no vibration, large, usable tool rests that are easy to adjust, good-quality wheels, and friendly features.
