Makita Adds 12V CXT Jigsaw, Tile Saw, Light

Makita 12V Max CXT Jigsaw

Makita has recently announced the release of 3 new tools to be added to their new 12V CXT Cordless lineup: a Jigsaw, a 3-3/8” Tile/Glass Saw, and a portable L.E.D. flashlight. All of these tools utilize Makita’s new slide type battery packs that seem to be phasing out their older stick style packs. These slide battery packs come in 2.0 Ah & 4.0 Ah for extended run time compared to 12V MAX packs. Both feature L.E.D. charge level indicators.

Over last holiday season we saw the release of the first tools to utilize this 12V CXT system, their 12V Max CXT Drill/Driver Combo Kits, and it seems that they will continue to expand this lineup.

The new 12V Max CXT Jigsaw has as super-compact design, at just over 9” long and weighs around 4lbs with a battery. The variable speed motor is capable of delivering 2,900 strokes per minute and offers 3 orbital settings along with straight cut. A built-in electric brake ensures the blade stops when the trigger is released. The base rotates up to 45° in both directions.

A rear dust port allows for vacuum attachment and there is also dust blower in the front of the tool to clear the cut path. A possible downside is that blade changes require the on-board wrench. Available as bare tool or as a kit that includes the saw, blade, two 12V max CXT™ 2.0Ah batteries, charger, and tool case.

Cutting capacities are as follows:
Wood (@90°): 2-9/16”
Aluminum (@90°): 5/32”
Mild steel (@90°): 1/16”

The new 12V Max CXT 3-3/8″ Tile/Glass Saw also has a compact and lightweight design, weighing just over 4 lbs with a battery. It also includes a 16.9 oz water tank attachment for use in wet cutting applications. The base is nickel-plated to prevent rust and rotates up to 45° for bevel cuts. The 3-3/8” blades allow for a 1” cutting depth @ 90° and 5/8” cut depth @45°. Sold as bare tool or as a kit that includes the saw, a 3-3/8” diamond blade, two 12V max CXT™ 2.0Ah batteries, charger, and tool case.

The 12V Max CXT L.E.D. flashlight weighs in at an impressive .6 lbs with a 2.0 Ah battery and is 3-7/16” long which makes it perfect for machinery or automotive work. It would also make for a nice handheld light to keep close by when forward lighting is preferable to hanging or mounted lights that may be too large to reach in small spaces or may cast shadows from the operator. It will run for up to 28 hours on a 12V max CXT 4.0Ah battery (not included) and is rated at 100 lumens. And with a bare tool price of around $25, this would be a good piece for anyone’s collection.
