There’s no secret that the new OSHA Silica Rule has consumers scrambling to invest in compliant products. We’ve seen a growing number of Makita products introduced and launched in the US market and appear to be one the industry leaders in providing silica dust extraction systems. Systems such as vacuums, accessories and attachments for concrete drilling, breaking surfacing and other cutting applications. The Makita Dust Xtraction Vacuum VC4710 is one of Makita’s premium dust collection systems. Featuring a 12 AMP motor, light enough to produce a total vacuum weight of only 27 lbs. and 135 CFM of suction power! Includes a gross container size of 12 gallon, 9 gallons for dry capacity and 8 gallons for wet capacity. To help improve the systems stability, Makita’s engineering team designed the wide-set rear wheels and enlarged steel caster front wheels to produce a lower center of gravity for improved stability. This unit also is equipped with one of the longest power cords of 24’ and a 16’ anti-static hose. Did we leave out the part that the equipped filter efficiency comes in at 99.95% and a very low sound rating of only 59dB(A)! Their system is the perfect tool for connecting to a range of Makita tools including concrete saws. After the system shuts off, it continues to run for approximately 8-12 seconds to ensure all dust particles are completely collected and filtered properly.
While the Makita Dust Xtraction Vacuum VC4710 is one of the best-in-class solutions, they offer another great system known as the Makita Dry Dust Extractor/Vacuum XCV04Z. This unit provides a 127 CFM and 96” water lift of suction on corded power. If using their two 18V LXT battery platform, it generates 74 CFM and 36” water lift of suction. Another interesting feature to this system is the three stage HEPA filtration system that captures large, small and micro dust particles, extending the main HEPA filters shelf life. This hybrid (corded & cordless feature) is lighter in weight, weighing in at 21lbs!
Another great solution by Makita, is their Cordless 1/2 Gallon HEPA Filter Backpack Vacuum XCV05Z. This lightweight (9.4 lbs.), no corded system is great for many applications, especially when going up a ladder. The 39″ flexible hose has an extension wand with 20″ to 34″ of additional reach. The 53 CFM motor may be smaller than other Makita systems, but who needs a 10 ton gorilla on your back anyway! Their continuous run time is 90 minutes on the low setting and 60 minutes when on high. The system is fairly quiet with a sound rating of 70 dB(A). The XCV05Z system is powered by their 2, 18V 5.0 Ah battery platform, for 36V power and performance.
Overall, all three systems are great solutions and offer many benefits.
