Last week we hosted the “Tool Test Raw” between VCG Construction and Tool Review Zone where Vince from VCG used the Milwaukee 2804-22 Hammer Drill to go against Clint from Tool Review Zone with the New Ridgid Octane GEN5X. Before all the fun began the VCG crew did a full live walk through of the Ohio Power Tool showroom, taking live questions, video above. But the question your’re probably asking, who won the competition? Continue reading →
The Milwaukee M18 Chainsaw was one of the most anticipated new tools for 2018, certainly not the first cordless chainsaw to hit the market but the first to do it with just 18 volts, as competiton is at 36V, 54V, or even as high as 80V. Could Milwaukee deliver a professional 16” chainsaw and still make it compatible with the hundreds of other tools? We originally posted on the 2727-21HD in May(Coptool post) but now that we’ve got it out in the field with professionals at Ahlum & Arbor Tree Preservation we wanted to take a closer look and see if it’s lived up to the hype as well as how they might hold up under wear.
Just announced is Dewalt’s new vacuum that checks all the boxes for those working with Silica. It’s cordless running off the Flexvolt 60V platform, its wireless using a remote control (included) to turn on/off with any tool (not fully automatic but better than walking to the tool each time), filter cleaning mechanism is automatic so compliant with Table 1 (29 CFR 1926.1153), it has a full 125 CFM so works with 5” grinders, tuck pointers and concrete cutters, HEPA rated filter and fits into the T-Stak Storage System. Capacity is 2 gallons and includes an 8” hose plus a fleece bag for properly collecting all the silica dust. For more info check out the full Dewalt press release below.
It features 12V size and portability, with 18V of power, and is advertised as being “ideal for any contractor seeking a more compact cutting solution for framing; roofing; form-work; and more.” Is that true? Can this Makita subcompact circular saw really deliver on the jobsite? to answer that question, we gave it to foreman AJ Delancey for his feedback. Then we took it to Ohio Power Tool where Kris Cousins opened it up to see how Makita designed an 18V saw that features 5,000 RPM. Continue reading →
Our friends at Makita have built a wide offering around cordless solutions for specific concrete applications, many things that are simply not offered by Dewalt, Hilti, Milwaukee or any other major cordless platform. The launch of the XRT01 Rebar Tie tools makes a lot of sense adding to the 2 rebar cutting options XCS02T1($1095) and XCS01Z($1999), also 18V concrete vibrators, along with one of the most powerful cordless SDS-Max in the XRH07PTU($699) and a handful of other concrete specific products. So what makes this rebar tie gun so special?
Makita gives Rebar a new twist, and we staple cables with Dewalt. Ridgid rains down from the heavens…and Sarah returns to the show! View this and more on YOUR Power Tool Week In Review, Episode 129. Continue reading →
With a continued focus on user safety Bosch has announced a larger addition to their growing lineup of vacuums & dust extractor accessories. As companies have become compliant with the OSHA silica standards the Bosch VAC090 and VAC140 have been extremely popular. Both feature auto-cleaning, tool power management and 150 CFM which means they meet requirements up to 6” cutting & grinding tools. For professionals however there continues to be a big demand for a dust collection solution for use with larger equipment 7”, 9”, 12” and larger (cutting/grinding). The GAS20-17AH($1500) is a heavy duty monster that’ll collect dust at a rate of 300 CFM so more than enough to use with larger grinders and cutters all the way up to 12” under Table 1 (possibly even on 14” or higher but would require testing). The Dewalt DCS-575 Flexvolt 60V Max 7-1/4” Circular Saw has now been available for over 2 years- and in that time, Dewalt has seen more than its fair share of competition from NEW cordless circular saws entering the market- even their own rear-handled DCS577 from 2017. YET in spite of the numerous updated models available, many Dewalt fans have stayed loyal to their original DCS575 with its brushless motor, electric brake, and of course its RIGHT-SIDED blade.
