It’s no secret among mechanics there is a large migrations away from air tools towards cordless options. New impacts can generate a ton of power in some case too much however they can also be bulky and don’t always offer enough control of the power. These new “Mid-Torque” M18 FUEL Impacts provide a solution with plenty of torque needed for most applications but much closer in size to their compact impacts with more options for control of the power. These new 2860-22($399, ½” pin) and 2861-22($399, ½” ring) both offer 450 ft lbs torque and should fill the need for many tradesmen.
Southwire Tools & Equipment continues to demonstrate their leadership position with their recent introduction of SIMpull Fish Tapes. Their new line features a spiral extruded polymer design that reduces the amount of effort to push or pull fish tape through EMT or PVC conduit. Unlike competitive fiberglass products, the new design provides better flexibility and is kink resistant. SIMpull Fish Tapes are available in nine models, two tape diameters and various lengths to fit most applications.
Our friends at Southwire Tools have been on a bit of a buying spree over the last few years with Maxis Pullers, Coleman Extension Cords and now Sumner Equipment. While Southwire is focused on electrical trades and Sumner more on the welding & mechanical trades we see a lot of reasons this acquisition makes sense for both parties. Southwire has been aggressively pursuing product development as well with products like their SIMpull Fishtapes, Bluetooth Mulitmeters or partnering with Milwaukee Tool for Southwire crimpers using the M18 battery platform, coming in Q1. It would be our hope this pursuit of product development will translate to the Sumner product line as well moving forward. We will see where it all goes but it is pretty exciting news for fans of Southwire and Sumner, see full Southwire press release below. Continue reading →

We have heard many different questions about extension cords and GFCIs usage so when we had Travis from Safex in to talk about jobsite safety this was one of the first things on our list. We have also spoken with people who have had problems with OSHA because of cord usage so we wanted to see if we could provide some helpful guidance to help others avoid future troubles. We firmly believe everyone’s number one priority here is to keep people safe on the job! Turns out there is not much mystery, all the rules are right on the warning tag attached to every extension cord and GFCI. The other big part of the equation here is identifying damage and service issues which we will follow up shortly in our next video with Travis from Safex.
We will continue to search out concrete tools and accessories to help our audience meet the upcoming OSHA Silica Dust standards, June 23, 2017. Cutting concrete outdoors with a gas cut-off saw and water hookup probably won’t change much however for indoor concrete cutting or dry cutting we will definitely see some new challenges. These new Core Cut C14($599) and C16($999) Concrete Saws are electric but offer serious power much closer to gas than we have seen in the past and can be used wet or dry. Many 14”+ electric saws currently don’t have water hookups or dust collectors and aftermarket attachments can be questionable. The new OSHA spec for dust collection require near HEPA filtration, automatic filter cleaning and 25 CFM per 1” of blade diameter in cutting. For a 14”saw that’s 350 CFM, you’re not going to find that at your local hardware store.
