RockStar Girls Favorite New Tool at WOC13 – Makita 36V Hammer Drill HRH01ZX2

Rock Star Girls

One thing that never seems to fail at the World of Concrete or any show Makita is presenting are the very attractive ladies they bring to inform the public of their latest and greatest products. We already had a chance to see and actually test out the Makita SDS-Plus HRH01ZX2 ($359, Amazon) at the STAFDA show a few months before. Our interest was, however, reinvigorated when the nice girls from Rock Star Energy Drink give us a full tutorial on how Makita was able to get the 36V power from 2 of the extremely popular 18V LXT batteries.

Unfortunately our journalism skills failed us in this interview and we retained little of the insightful information these girls shared with us about the cordless drill itself. The great news is Makita has already produced two very nice videos below that do a great job highlighting the features and benefits (unfortunately the Rock Star girls are not in the video). The original press release on the drill is below that, so all the information should be covered in pretty good detail.

La Mirada, CA Makita, a worldwide manufacturer of technologically advanced power tools that are more compact with less weight yet deliver industrial strength power and results, has released the new 18V X2 LXT® Lithium-Ion (36V) 1” Rotary Hammer, model HRH01ZX2.

The new 18V X2 LXT® 1” Rotary Hammer is powered by two 18V LXT® batteries (36V). With 3 Joules of Impact Energy and 4,800 BPM, the new HRH01ZX2 Rotary Hammer is engineered to meet the demands of corded 1” drilling and hammering concrete applications without having to drag around a cord. It is powered by the same 18V LXT® batteries used in 60+ other Makita 18V cordless tools.

Makita to Deliver More 18V Solutions for AC Applications
“2012 benchmarks Makita’s strategy to provide the user with more 18V solutions for traditional AC applications,” said Mario Lopez, Makita Product Manager, Cordless Tools. “The primary tools on their tool belt like drills and impact drivers are meeting their demands within the 18V platform, but secondary tools like saws and rotary hammers are still underpowered. Makita also understands the importance of staying within the 18V platform. Other manufacturers have tried to increase voltages to meet such demands but have failed because the 18V platform is still strongly preferred. Makita 18V X2 LXT® is a solution to this demand.”

Latest Addition to 60+ Tool 18V LXT Line-Up
The HRH01ZX2 Rotary Hammer is the latest addition to the 18V LXT® line up, with 60+ cordless tools powered by Makita’s fast-charging 18V Lithium-Ion battery.

“Since 2005 Makita has focused on delivering targeted jobsite solutions with the ‘Right Tool, Right Job’ for the user within the 18V LXT® platform,” said Lopez. “18V X2 LXT® is a prime example, as this technology gives the user the option to ‘cut the cord’ for demanding concrete drilling applications without having to deal with the pains of high voltages and managing different chargers. Right now the real question is, ‘What can your 18 volt battery do for you?’ 18V X2 LXT® answers this question with a new 18V cordless solution for corded power demands.”

Corded Performance without the Cord
The new HRH01ZX2 Rotary Hammer delivers up to twice the drilling speed of 18V rotary hammers, with up to three times as many holes drilled. It has a 1” drilling capacity (accepts SDS-PLUS) with 0-4,800 BPM, 0-1,200 RPM, and a full 3.0 Joules of impact energy. The HRH01ZX2 has features common to Makita’s broad line of rotary hammers including 3-mode operation, one-touch sliding chuck, and a torque limiting clutch engineered to prevent gear damage by automatically disengaging gears if the bit binds.

The HRH01ZX2 also has L.E.D. battery indicators that show the charge level for each 18V battery (batteries sold separately). It has a vibration-absorbing handle, and a compact design at only 14-1/4” long that weighs only 11.3 lbs., with batteries.

Makita 18V Lithium-Ion
The HRH01ZX2 is the latest addition to Makita’s 18V LXT® platform. As the leading innovator in cordless tools, Makita created the 18V Lithium-Ion category in 2005. Today there are over 60 Makita 18V cordless tools powered by one 18V Lithium-Ion battery. Makita’s groundbreaking 18V Lithium-Ion platform features the ENERGY STAR® qualified Rapid Optimum Charger, which will charge an 18V LXT® battery in only 30 minutes for more work and less downtime.
