Brushless Grinder Challenge 2015 – Milwaukee, Makita & Metabo

Metabo vs Makita vs Milwaukee 18v Grinders

Over the past several years we have seen some great leaps forward in cordless grinders. Until recently many would not even call them “cordless grinders” only “cordless cut-off” tools because they would stall almost instantly if you actually tried to grind with them. Thanks to the advances in brushless motors and new higher amperage 4Ah, 5Ah, 6Ah+ batteries we are now seeing cordless grinders start to outperform many corded models. If this trend continues and prices continue to come down we could see a big shift towards cordless grinders. For this comparison we are looking at the cordless brushless 18V grinders from Milwaukee, Makita and Metabo.

The goal of this test is to basically look at these 3 top grinders and compare how they perform in heavy applications, speed as well as battery life. Grinders are much tougher tools to compare side by side with stats because there are no torque ratings only RPMs which means very little without a solid motor behind it. Of course we will also look at costs, aerodynamic, safety features and other aspects of each tool.  (more…)

Metabo Tools Introduces Its First 18V Cordless Grinder

Metabo is one of those tool brands that you’re not going to find at the local big box stores, sure a little more pricy but also very dependable and well engineered. What Metabo is most known for is their grinders, we say this pretty confidently because other manufacturers use Metabo as the target comparison when redesigning their own grinders for power and durability.

The Metabo W18LTX ($123, Amazon) is Metabo’s first cordless lithium-ion grinder and we are pretty confident it’s going to perform very well if Metabo is going to put their name on it. We were also very surprised how reasonable priced the unit is compared to other 18 volt grinders. We only found it sold as an add-on bare tool however, not in a kit with battery and charger so you would also need to purchase a Metabo LTX Cordless tool kit. Check out the video below for more info on the Metabo 18V cordless line as well as the official Metabo Cordless Grinder press release after that.

Bosch Power Tools at World of Concrete 2011

Every year we get pretty excited about the World of Concrete because of all the new product releases that happen just prior or during the actual show. It also has some really cool and interesting attractions to see, if you are into concrete at least. The most exciting new Bosch concrete product had to have been the new Brute BH2760VCD ($1599, Ohio Power Tool) which we had compared to the Makita and DeWalt previously.  Here are a few others to look for that are either out now or headed to stores in the near future. Also check out this photo album for more pictures from the show.
