Ingersoll-Rand Impact Wrenches – Lowest Price

IR impacts

For some time Ingersoll Rand has been one of the top names in pneumatic tools. Even when Ohio Power Tool started modestly 25 years ago servicing and selling mostly pneumatic tools they were one of the leaders. In fact before starting Ohio Power Tool in 1983 our company president had spent many years prior as a saleman for Ingersoll Rand products across the mid-west. We have grown tremendously and now offer a wide range of pneumatic, electric and hydraulic products as well as rentals and repair service. Since 2008 marks our 25th anniversary in business we wanted to honor of humble beginnings by making serious efforts to be the lowest price supplier for Ingersoll Rand pneumatic tools on the internet; not an easy task with the hundreds of other suppliers out there. I encourage you to do some searching but I think you will find we are one of the cheapest for most products. On top of great prices we also have an extremely knowledgeable staff that will actually pickup the phone and answer your questions, not an overseas call center or automated system… this is done intentionally to provide the best service possible, don’t believe it call 800-242-4424.

Popular Ingersoll-Rand Impact Tools

2135ti impact
The ½” 2135 Impact Wrench has been one of the most popular impact wrenches on the market for some time. The newest model is the 2135TiMax ½” Impactool which replaces the 2135Ti. The Ti indicates Titanium Duty, “Max” is the newest line of Titanium Duty which provides additional controls and new triggers, among other improvements. This has become such a popular model because it provides 780 ft. lb. torque and weighs less than 4 lbs. The best power to weight ratio in its class. Our price is $249.72.

For the 1” heavy duty impacts with 6" extended anvils there are two popular models the 285B-6 and 2190Ti-6. Some differences in the models are the 2190Ti is lighter by 11.8 lbs. at 15.5 lbs and provides 200 ft. lb. more power at 1650 ft. lb. torque. It also features a chainsaw style handle specifically made to change large tires on trucks and other equipment. The 285B-6 is an extremely capable machine and if you can handle a little extra weight the price is right at only $399.00, while the 2190Ti-6 is $619.86, also a great price.

IQv cordless tools
Still fairly new to the Ingersoll Rand brand of tools is the IQv cordless impacts and complete line of cordless tools. Since IR traditionally makes air tools we were pretty skeptical that they would make a cordless line that could really compete with the high end Milwaukee or Bosch lines. I assure you this was not some ill though out re-branded product which we have seen in the past when other manufactures trying to expand their product offerings. The IQv cordless line offers some significant advantages including complete interchangeability with NiCd and Lithium Ion batteries between similarly powered tools. A universal charger and light which work with all the batteries: 7.2v, 14.4v and 19.2v. This line is specifically made for automotive work with size and weight as key factors in design. They weigh up to 35% less than traditional 18v, 24v, 28v and 36v tools but provide 2.4 Ahrs higher than many other cordless tools. The specific tools are also automotive in design with several impacts, drill/drivers, ratchets, grinders, a cutter and the universal light.

There are hundreds of other great products I could go on for days about and obviously IR is extremely well known for more than just impacts. They have so many great pneumatic products including grinders, sanders, cutting tools, drills, air compressors and many more. Find many of our IR products listed on our Ingersoll Rand Home Page. Let us know if you would like to more information on any IR products.

New Tool – Milwaukee V28 Right Angle Grinder 0725-21

We love to see Milwaukee adding more tools to the V28 Line. Earlier this week we had mentioned the Cordless V28 toolbox Vacuum which just came out as well. The great part about the V28 system is that it actually has the power to run tools like an angle grinder. It seems like there are a lot of other tool brands that will make tools that are for all intensive purposes useless but the idea is cool. If you start loosing power within the first minutes of use, should they really even be making the tool. The V28 on the other hand has the power to get the job done when an outlet isn’t around. Will a single charge run all day…no of course not but with a extra battery alternating on the charger (and a 5000 charge V28 guarantee) you should be able to get some serious grinding done.

V28 Grinder / Cut-off Kit 0725-21 (includes battery & charger) – $348.21
V28 Grinder / Cut-off Tool Only 0725-20$199.20

  • V28 Motor delivers 8,000 RPM for fast cutting and grinding
  • V28 Li-Ion Battery 75 Cuts of 1/2" Threaded Rod.
  • Fuel Gauge indicates remaining run time.
  • Overload Protection prevents overheating and extends tool life.
  • Soft start reduces start-up torque and improves gear life.
  • Slide on switch reduces user fatigue
  • Spindle: 5/8" – 11
  • Kit includes:  One battery, charger, side handle, grinding guard, cut-off guard, flanges, wrench, grinding wheel, cut-off wheel.

Guide to Buying Power Tools Online

Buying power tools online is like buying anything else online, there are some shady companies out there and you need to watch out. There are also many reputable companies who have been selling power tools for many years before the internet was ever around. There is no reason to be concerned if you are buying from a reputable company but how can you tell who is reputable or not?

Who Are These People

Any company doing business on the internet should tell you who they are. There should be an About Us page where they tell you about their company’s history and background. Ohio Power Tool for instance has been in business 25 years; I imagine it would be pretty hard to stay in the local tool business 25 years without a lot of happy customers. Also how knowledgeable are the people on the other end? Do they know tools or is it just a warehouse of products and no one really know anything about the tools. Some times it may not matter to you, if you know you need a V28 SDS Hammer 0756-22 does it matter if they know what they are selling? Maybe not but if you had a choice of who to do business with wouldn’t it make sense to deal with someone who can knowledgably compare it to the Bosch 36V Litheon Hammer. Also a company who could repair the tool or send you a part if something was to get damaged? Are you ever going to buy another power tool in your life? Wouldn’t it make sense to deal with a company you can trust, ask questions and order from again?

The Old Switcharoo

The internet is great because you can find such good deals and compare everyone to each other. There are also those deals that are too good to be true and on the internet that is probably the case. There are several reasons tools on the internet might be much cheaper than the competition.

The first is pretty obvious; sometimes a cordless tool is sold without batteries as a bare tool. This is good for people who already have several tools in a line and don’t need new batteries. Double check to make sure you are getting the kit which has two batteries and a charger, on some website this is not clearly marked.

The second reason a tool may be cheaper is because it is a recondition tools, basically tools that were defective or broke and then repaired. These are sold as reconditioned, which can be a good deal although not the same as a brand new tool. For professionals we do not recommend these tools but for your DIY weekend warrior on a budget I personally would feel better with a reconditioned Milwaukee than a new discount junk tool special. If you buy a reconditioned tool it is very important to make sure that the tool was reconditioned by the manufacturer and not some shop overseas. Ohio Power Tool doesn’t sell any reconditioned tools, only brand new tools. The big problem with the internet is when retailers sell reconditioned tools without disclosing it has been reconditioned (basically as a new tool). This is extremely dishonest and a problem in the industry. If you purchased a new tool that is actually reconditioned you just got ripped off, email the manufacturer and let them know where you bought it.

The third reason you will find cheaper tools is the “Grey Market” which could be a wide range of things but basically is when a retailer gets products from outside proper distribution channels. Did you ever watch the Sopranos toward the end when they were selling all the stolen power tools? I always think of that when I see super cheap tools online. These products might be stolen, brought in from over seas or a variety of other scams I don’t know about. These can be dangerous, you may not have a vaild warranty or worst you may be in possession of stolen property. A good way to see if a company is legit is to visit the manufacturer’s site and see it the company is authorized to sell the tool. Check out these Manufacturer’s “Where to Buy” pages: Bosch, Milwaukee, Ridgid or Hougen although not all manufacturers list these. This doesn’t always assure any specific level of service from the company but it at least assures they are buying products from the manufacturer.

Anyone Home

Personally I never do business with any company that doesn’t provide a phone number and their address. This isn’t always your first though when purchasing an item but trust me after the first time of waiting 3 weeks and not hearing anything on where your product is you are going to be extremely dissatisfied with that email form that goes to the land of no response. With power tools especially sometimes you may need the tool for a job right away. Wouldn’t it make sense to be able to call, see if it is in stock and see if the tool or part will go out today? Just like dealing with someone as if you went up to the store counter.

What are Others Saying

The internet is great because there are many third party resources for learning about a company. Ohio Power Tool does not hound its customers for positive feedback as some other companies do but our feedback is all very positive. Here are a few good resources for customer reviews,, as well as forums such as the Ridgid Forum where you can ask others about a company.

Hopefully this has been helpful. Please feel free to comment and let us know if you have any other suggestions!

Milwaukee Portable Generators – New Products

Milwaukee Generators

Milwaukee Tool, just last week introduced a new line of heavy-duty, gas-powered generators which are very powerful, durability and built for performance in the professional trades. There are 4 new generators in the line 4,300-watt (model 4943-24), 5,000-watt (model 4950-20), 6,000-watt (4960-24) and 7,000-watt (4970-24). How do we know these generators are going to be any good? We know these are top of the line generators because Milwaukee has teamed up with Honda and Briggs & Stratton the two top generator engine makers to incorporate the most successful power plants available on the market today.

All 4 of these generators are built with heavy jobsite use in mind. All feature a 7.5 gallon gas tank, overhead valve (OHV) design, precisely machined components, electronic ignition, low oil alert systems and super-quiet mufflers that ensure easy starting and reliable performance. A premium brushed alternator features Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), ensuring reliable constant voltage output, and Full-Time, Max Power, which delivers full power to all 120-volt or 240-volt circuits and reduces the risk of equipment or generator damage.

Additional features include an impact-resistant stainless steel control panel with an optimal mix of seven 120-volt and/or 240-volt duplex and Twist-Locking power receptacles. An automatic engine idle control reduces fuel consumption and noise when in stand-by mode. Models also feature a durable 1¼” diameter, steel roll-cage frame, rugged, 12” all-terrain, non-flat tires for easy transport. To protect the generator from the inevitable downpour, our circuit breakers and panel switches are 100% sealed and all receptacles are
shielded by a UV and rain-resistant shield.

Crate Motors – LS Corvette Engine in BMW?

Recently I was visiting with a friend of mine at Turbo Charging Dynamics who manufactures BMW turbos and other performance accessories, mostly for BMWs from the 80’s and 90’s. He has a great job basically playing with cars all day and make insane horsepower with turbo systems they designs. He had an interesting project in the shop, a customer with an older M3 that was getting it striped and putting in a GM LS motor (corvette engine). TCD wasn’t actually putting the motor in, just doing some of the other BMW specific performance work but it seemed like an odd paring to have a GM motor replace a BMW motor. I wonder if this is probably fround upon by other hardcore BMW enthusiasts (TCD forum). However if you are going to put a new engine in an older vehicle of any kind these aluminum small block LS series motors seem to be a very viable option. They are relatively small, light weight, easy to install and rather cheap. They even make plastic engine templates the exact size of the motor so you can fit everything in place without constantly using an engine crane and knocking around any other components. (more on this project soon)

This was the best Crate Motor site I found with LS2 engines 400hp under $6,000 and a LS7 engines 505hp just over $13,000. These engines are used in everything including some planes because they are so light weight and compact. Hopefully in the not to distant future we can put together a project car using one of these engines which will give us plenty of opportunity to demonstrate some of our Automotive Power Tools and I can play mechanic on company time. Let me know if you have any links to interesting project car sites.

Top Deals: Hein Werner Jacks, Lifts & Presses

During the month of February if you order over $1300 of any Hein-Werner equipment you will receive free shipping to anywhere in the continental US. At first glance that might seem like only a modest deal. Then you realize some of the larger floor jacks weight in at 400+ lbs while the larger shop presses can weight almost as much as a small compact car. Freight would differ by location but this could probably be several hundred dollars in savings.

Hein-Werner is a well known name in automotive equipment from floor jacks, air lifts, engine lifts, transmission jacks, shop presses, jack stands and many more. In additional to being top of the line equipment, all our Hein Werner products are manufactured right here in the United States of America. If you have any questions about any of the Hein-Werner equipment contact the professionals at Ohio Power Tool and we would be more than happy to help.

Women Vs. Men – Thoughts on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day seems to be more about doing stuff for the woman in your life. As a guy there are lots of expectations, you are suppose to take her to a great dinner or do something romantic in addition to nice gifts. Maybe you will buy extremely overpriced flowers that were 1/3 the price the week before or maybe you are going to step it up this year and buy her jewelry. Perhaps her standards are not that high after several years of marriage so she is just going to go out and buy herself something with the Master Card then say thanks for her valentines present.

Women are great and they deserve lots of appreciation, gifts and praise. As guys we should be celebrated as well for our contributions made to our respective relationships. With all the commercials on TV it might be easy to think this is a holiday for women but valentine’s day is really for everyone willing to put in the time to make a relationship work. Flowers and jewelry might not be exactly the ideal gift for most men but power tools are always the right choice for any occasion.

Here is a simple little comparison of Men & Women valentine gifts:

Dozen Roses  = Wright Socket Set  | Girl’s though: “At least he remembered but that’s not very creative” Guy’s though: “Wow I didn’t even remember it was valentines until my way home from work and now I have an awesome socket set”

Large Vermont Teddy Bear = Infrared Laser Thermometer | Girl’s though: “That’s sweet but what am I going to do with a huge teddy bear” Guy’s thought: “Lasers, that’s sweet there is so much I can do with this IR-100”

Diamond Earrings = Milwaukee V28 3 piece set + add another tool free | Girl’s though: “Wow these are really nice, what did he do wrong now” Guy’s though: “Wow these are really nice, what did I do so right”

New Ridgid Hi-Tech Tools & Gadgets

Over the last year Ridgid has come out with several great new products that take some fairly advance technology and make them cheap enough for use by anyone. Three good examples of these are the IR Thermometer, Micro Seesnake and the Gas Sniffer.

The IR-100 infrared thermometer is probably my new favorite toy around the shop. This is a great technology with an extremely convenient application and after using it for only a few times you’ll think, how did I get along without this before. There are many obvious applications for HVAC, plumbing, mechanic, electrician, home inspectors and the list goes on and on. Then of course there are those age old questions man has struggled with for years which can now be answered such as… how hot is this McDonalds coffee really?

micro seesnake

The Micro Seesnake, which hopefully everyone is pretty familiar with by now as we have mentioned it several times is another gret new hi-tech gadget. Really there was nothing around before this for the price that was so versatile. Great for plumbing, HVAC, home inspection, electrician, mechanics and everyone else, it has a million uses. For plumbing it can’t really replace the larger Seesnakes for most plumbing work but with up to 30’ of extensions and at a fraction of the cost it does save lots of lugging around the big equipment for the smaller jobs.

Gas Sniffer CG-100

The CG-100 Gas Sniffer is another great new Ridgid product. This tool makes finding combustible gas leaks very simple with an easy to read LED meter and audio or vibrate modes. Again this is a great technology with a very simple application to making many people’s job not only easier but also much safer. And at the price of only $242 it should be an obvious choice for many toolboxes.
