At the Hilti booth, we’ve got a close look at the new Hilti TE 2000-AVR. The little sister to the Hilti TE 3000, this Concrete demolition hammer is dedicated for floor work with exceptionally low weight & low vibrations. This hammer is ideal for 4″ – 6″ of concrete for a more controlled break. If you’re hauling around a big ol’ heavy hammer to break smaller slabs, stop doing that. It isn’t worth the fatigue and exhausting transport. (more…)

Walking around the World of Concrete, it’s impossible to walk by this little guy without stopping to admire! We took a close look at the PC6004EC Highway Grinder and it truly is amazing. Designed for high production grinding/profiling of concrete and asphalt pavements. This 75,000lb (full water) tank cuts 50″ wide at a low 1315 RPM and a high 1900 RPM.
This kind of size and production requires 2 motors. The main engine, attached directly to the head, is a huge turbocharged 630HP diesel. Also, the Auxiliary turbocharged 148HP diesel engine located in the front, operates the hydraulics and drive. There are probably only a handful of people in the country that’ll ever buy one of these units but for us it is more about knowing Diamond Products is very serious about concrete cutting and grinding. They bring this same level of expertise to their smaller walk-behind saws and handheld saws as well.
Just received some exciting news. Milwaukee is releasing a new light March 1st! It’s a smaller (also much cheaper) version of the M18 RADIUS LED Compact Site Light 2145-20 which is available now for $259.95. Also, the same version is available with the “one-key” technology, M18 RADIUS LED Compact Site Light w/One-Key 2146-20 for only $349.95. You can learn more about these lights from our previous post, The M18 Radius Site Light Wants to Show You the Way. Let’s review some of the features this new light has to offer.
What an amazing display from Makita at the World of Concrete. This is the place where power is defined and why Makita is one of power tools’ leading brands.
We posted this video and received feedback that we can hopefully clear up here. The current Dewalt Flexvolt SDS-MAX in this video is 1-9/16″ with 6.1 JOULES. This new Makita XRH07ZKU ($599,bare) is 11.4 JOULES so off the specs alone these results should be in-line. It’s worth mentioning that Dewalt acknowledges these specs and is planning to release another Flexvolt SDS-MAX hammer later this year that will likely be equal or greater (see our Dewalt WOC post). The local Wilton rep stopped by the shop and got this bad boy out. It really is a nice piece of equipment. We’re talking just 3 seconds to cut your struts, a 7 second change cycle, and no time de-burring! I mean, if you are hanging miles of struts, you’d be crazy not to look into this.
