We are about a month away from Makita releasing a bigger 12″ version of their already successful 10″ Compound Saw LS1019L ($549) with the front facing slide rails. The Makita 12” Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Laser LS1219L ($599) combines capacity, accuracy and efficient dust extraction in a more compact size. Just like the 10″ model, it offers a unique 2-Steel Rail Sliding System that reduces the footprint for an against the shop wall, flush operation. (more…)

Last year Makita got us all excited over a cordless version of their excellent plunge saw. We first wrote about it in August when we had a short time with it. We concluded that it had a lot of power, and was easily as accurate as our jobsite saw.

Makita is making a simple but significant change to their 01Z 18V X2 LXT Brushless Blower with the release of the 02Z. Mainly, the nozzle. The previous version featured a smaller flat tip design the provided higher speeds but lower volume. The new 02Z has a much wider nozzle that produces 473 CFM (at 120 mph) vs the 155 CFM (at 208 mph) found on the old model.

What an amazing display from Makita at the World of Concrete. This is the place where power is defined and why Makita is one of power tools’ leading brands.
We posted this video and received feedback that we can hopefully clear up here. The current Dewalt Flexvolt SDS-MAX in this video is 1-9/16″ with 6.1 JOULES. This new Makita XRH07ZKU ($599,bare) is 11.4 JOULES so off the specs alone these results should be in-line. It’s worth mentioning that Dewalt acknowledges these specs and is planning to release another Flexvolt SDS-MAX hammer later this year that will likely be equal or greater (see our Dewalt WOC post). For this competition we wanted to look at the Top 5 Professional Jobsite Table Saws available today and compare them on Safety, Accuracy, Ease of Use, Power and Value. We only selected units with folding wheeled stands integrated, we did not include any of the “Compact” table saw units that use the folding stands also we drew the line at the top 5 for our test, other good options to consider would be Hitachi, Ridgid and Delta which offer solid units at even lower price points.
With 5 great competitors in the running some of the rating really comes down to splitting hairs but that’s what we do. Also the big elephant in the room is the SawStop as it’s the only one on the market with “Flesh Detecting” technology. We are really going to look at the saws without putting much emphasis on that feature (No Hot Dogs Were Harmed in the making of this video) there have been dozens of videos & posts on that topic, it is an awesome feature we recommend for everyone but if you are still looking for a table saw we want to focus on the other features.
Bosch Table Saw with Stand 4100-09 ($549)
Dewalt Table Saw with Stand DWE7491RS ($549)
Makita Table Saw with Stand 2705X1 ($749)
SawStop Table Saw with Stand JSS-MCA ($1299)
SkilSaw Table Saw with Stand SPT99-12 ($499) (more…)

Two big changes have been hitting the jobsite this year, we are seeing more heavy duty cordless tools taking the places of corded tools and clouds of silica dust are being eliminated. Unfortunately these 2 things don’t seem to work together as typical dust extractors turn on/off based off the tool plugged into them. Makita wireless AWS technology looks to change that, Auto-Start Wireless System (AWS), which uses Bluetooth™ technology for wireless communication between tool and vacuum/dust extractor to turn on/off makes a cordless vac system feasible from a power usage stand point. New AWS solutions announced was teased at their event last summer but fully launched last month at STAFDA including their first Cordless SDS-MAX hammer.
