2014 Milwaukee Heated Gear Unveiled Today with Several Updates

2014 Heated Jackets

There are a few changes for Milwaukee’s 5th season for Heated Apparel. The additions include 3 new hoodies black, Reatree Xtra and Realtree Max-1. For the jackets it looks like the Red and Black have been redesigned with a 2 tone design so the underside of the arm on the red jacket is black and may hide wear better. On the Realtree camo jackets the pattern has been changed to the Realtree Xtra from Realtree AP and there is a new 3-in-1 (heated vest/shell) option available which means the jacket will be even warmer in severe cold. Interestingly it looks like the “Carhartt” brown colored hoodie was dropped most likely due to slow sales and replaced with the black which should be far more popular. Of course all the new options will still be powered by the Milwaukee M12 battery system. (more…)

png

Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Stanley tools have decided to donate over $10,000 in tools to the Build America organization, which is a non-profit that makes improvements to public spaces such as parks.

According to A Concord Carpenter, the “Build America” program is a team of 21 recent, college graduates who travel the country, for 6-weeks, visiting camps and parks rebuilding and building accessible recreation for people with disabilities. Milwaukee M12 Variable Speed Polisher/Sander 2438-22X

M12 Buffer

Years ago during one of my summer breaks home from college a buddy and I thought it would be a good idea to get jobs at a carwash making tips towel drying cars. After about a week I got promoted to detailer. With no detailing experience, not even old enough to buy a beer the keys to new Mercedes, BMWs & Porches were handed over half a dozen a day. After 2 weeks on the job and learning the hard way how to burn paint with rubbing compound I figured I had learned enough and we venture out on our own as car detailers. We only had to do 1 -2 cars a day as opposed to 5 or 6 and we made more money plus finished around lunch so plenty of time for the pool. Ended up being the best summer job ever! (more…)

Milwaukee Step Bits Optimized for Cordless Drilling

Milwaukee Step Bit

Step bits have been around since before my time and at first glance the new Milwaukee Step Bits look pretty similar to others in the marketplace. Looks can be deceiving in this case because these new bits do have some advanced features which are hard to appreciate. For starters the Rapid Strike tip is more pronounced to start the hole clean and avoid any walking. The bits also have a black oxide coating to prolong bit life and a duel flute for faster speed but you can find similar features on other bits.

M18 FUEL Bandsaw is the Next Milwaukee Brushless Tool

M18 FUEL Portaband

As soon as Milwaukee released their FUEL line of 18V bushless tools, they vaulted themselves into position as one of the front runners for “best bushless tools on the market.” Their existing M18 and M12 lines of cordless tools had already been widely adopted, robust, and diverse, so there is always speculation as to which tool will be the next to make the jump to FUEL brushless motor. We’ve seen circular saws, high torque impact wrenches, M12 FUEL Hackzalls, and now, the latest announcement to the M18 FUEL lineup, the M18 FUEL Cordless Deep Cut Bandsaw 2729-21 ($479).

2729-21

The new cordless bandsaw comes with all the claims that we are used to hearing when a FUEL tool is released – basically that you will be looking at a cordless tool that will rival and/or exceed the performance of its corded counterparts. I have personally spoken to a variety of end users that have said the same thing about previous FUEL tools, so these are not necessarily outlandish claims. What can be said with absolute certainty is it will outperform any existing cordless bandsaws and probably compete with most corded bandsaw on the market as well.

18 volt brushless portable band saw

The cordless bandsaw will have a lot of the features that have made the Milwaukee 6123-20 deep cut corded bandsaw such a popular tool, such as the jobsite armor, gear protecting clutch, and sealed drive. It will have a 5” x 5” cut capacity, and feature a newly designed, tool-free, locking, adjustable shoe that can adjust from an extended shoe to no shoe quickly and easily.

The M18 FUEL Bandsaw is available now, and will also come in a kit that includes two of the 4.0 batteries as kit 2729-22 ($578). For anyone that is already invested in the M18 line up there will also be a bare tool option available 2729-20. If you are looking for any of Milwaukee M18 products or have a question you’d like answered feel free to call the pros at Ohio Power Tool, 800-242-4424.

Milwaukee Tool to Acquire Empire Levels

Milwaukee Acquire Empire

We recently got wind of this Acquisition from our friends at Contractor Supply Magazine. It looks like the Empire brand will continue to stand as an independent brand similar to Milwaukee’s Stilleto Hammer Line. This after their recent acquisition of one of the largest measuring tape manufacturers sure makes it seem like Milwaukee is serious about being in the hand tool manufacturing business. No word yet on if Milwaukee will also launch their own full line of levels to accompany the torpedo levels they launched last year. Certainly the trademark “TRUE BLUE” vials used on the Empire Levels will not match the color scheme if so. Can’t wait to hear more on the Milwaukee Tool and Empire Level!

Milwaukee M18 FUEL vs Makita 18Vx2 Cordless Circular Saw Showdown

Milwaukee vs Makita Cordless Circular Saw

The number one question we’ve gotten about the new Makita 36V (18Vx2) 7-1/4” XSH01X ($429) cordless circular saw is, how does it compare to the Milwaukee M18 FUEL 6-1/2” 2730-22 ($399) circular saw. Both of these saws aim to address the issue that 18V cordless circular saws have just never had the power or runtime to truly replace their corded counterparts. After we finally had both in hand we visited several folks in the field who build concrete forms and have been looking for a better cordless circular saw answer for sometime. These guys needed a powerful cutting solution that would not involve dragging a cord around, easy to maneuver and good runtime so they do not have to run back to the charger every few minutes. Milwaukee M12 FUEL Hackzall 2520-21XC, Big Power Little Package

M12 FUEL Hackzall

Milwaukee has been hinting around all week that there was going to be big news coming from the Milwaukee M12 lineup, cat’s out of the bag now. The launch of the M12 FUEL Hachzall 2520-21XC ($199) may be a turning point for some folks to drop their 18V tools and go all M12. It’s hard to get the full understanding because there’s not a great way to measure saw power, like you can with torque in drilling applications. Milwaukee product Manager Tom Simeone says against the competition it is 70% faster cutting, 4x runtime per charge (using 4.0Ah), reduced vibration, all while getting 6x longer tool life. (more…)
