Milwaukee M18 FUEL SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drills 2712-22 & 2715-22

m18 fuel sds-plus

While Milwaukee has always offered rotary hammer drills in SDS-Plus sizes they have not been serious players in the category. Bosch and Hilti have been the leaders with Dewalt and Makita taking their share of the pie as well. Up to this point 18V cordless SDS-Plus drills have been more of a lower powered niche product. Things look like they are about to shake up however as Milwaukee is working to prove their M18 FUEL cordless rotary drills can not only outperform any 18V or 36V but corded drills as well.

Power Tool Voltages Still Confusing Pros; is 20V Max more Powerful than 18V?

18v vs 20v batteries

NOPE! The above picture was taken recently by our friends at Tools in Action (watch full video below) and shows that both a Dewalt 20V Max and Milwaukee M18 battery charge at 20.4V fresh off the charger. We’ve explained it before but they say a picture is worth a thousand words. On first pull of the trigger both drop to 18V and you get the nominal rating. This is because batteries are made up of smaller 3.6V (4V max) lithium cells which are regulated for exact outputs and used in a wide range of different electronics. This means all 10.8V=12V Max, all 18V = 20V Max, 36V = 40V Max. Our friends at Tools in Action are finding the same thing we are however many people still are confused or think 20V Max is higher than 18V. (more…)

18V Brushless Hammer Drill Showdown 2 – Dewalt vs Milwaukee vs Makita vs Bosch

Hammer Drill Brushless

***** UPDATE 10/16/2015 Hammer Drill Test Showdown 3 for the latest cordless Hammer Drill models and 5.0Ah+ batteries

Several years ago when the first pro brushless drills hit the shelves for Milwaukee & Makita we did an 18V Hammer Drill Showdown with these same brands. At the time the Makita was at a disadvantage because they had just launched their first brushless drill which was made for the largest user base which doesn’t require a high torque tool but focuses more on runtime for medium duty applications. Of the 4 original drills only the Milwaukee remains the same, all 3 other tool companies have launched newer heavy duty hammer drills within the last year. The new Bosch Drill HDH181X however is not brushless, the torque has been increased and it now has the Active Response torque control feature but remains a 4 pole brushed motor which Bosch feels can hold it’s own against the brushless competition.

Milwaukee Tool 2014 New Product Launch Event in Videos

Milwaukee Crew 2014

Last week Milwaukee Tool had their annual “New Product Symposium” media event where they showcased many of their latest and greatest tools that had either just launched or will be available in the next 3-6 months. This event starts at 6:45am and packed the day full with never before seen (by the public at least) tools and accessories. We wanted to hit the new product highlights and have left out most of the items we’ve already covered in previous posts such as M18 Band Saw, Pressing Tools, etc. not to discount these products in anyway.

Below are some of the YouTube Videos we managed to put together pretty quickly (pardon the shaky camera work and choppy edit job). We will follow up with more in-depth reviews, videos and comparison testing for many of these products. We really just wanted to let you know what new tools are coming as well as the promise Milwaukee is making for each of these new tools. What better way to do that than get a few clips from the Milwaukee Team pitching it themselves.

These products should all be available soon, if not already, on the Milwaukee Tool page of Ohio Power Tool. Feel free to contact the experts 800-242-4424 on any existing Milwaukee Tools and certainly they will do their best to get you info on any products not yet available. For more pictures also check out our Facebook Photo Album with an additional 120+ pictures from the event. You can also search the hashtag #NPS14 on other social media networks for coverage from a wide range of quality news outlets.  (more…)

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Circular Saw 7-1/4” Faster Than Corded 2731-22

M18 Cordless Circular Saw

Sometimes we don’t think anyone is listening, other times we think perhaps they are. We previously posted this Cordless Circular Saw Article comparing the 18Vx2 Makita 7-1/4” with the M18 Milwaukee 6-1/2” cordless circular saws and gave props to the Makita because we found professionals demanded a full 7-1/4” saw which could use the 7-1/4” blades they’ve got piled up on the jobsite. Perhaps they listened or more likely they saw sales leaving to the Teal Team, regardless Milwaukee now has an answer in the 2731-20 ($219), or 2 battery kit 2731-22 ($429) and it’s a pretty compelling answer.

2014 Milwaukee Heated Gear Unveiled Today with Several Updates

2014 Heated Jackets

There are a few changes for Milwaukee’s 5th season for Heated Apparel. The additions include 3 new hoodies black, Reatree Xtra and Realtree Max-1. For the jackets it looks like the Red and Black have been redesigned with a 2 tone design so the underside of the arm on the red jacket is black and may hide wear better. On the Realtree camo jackets the pattern has been changed to the Realtree Xtra from Realtree AP and there is a new 3-in-1 (heated vest/shell) option available which means the jacket will be even warmer in severe cold. Interestingly it looks like the “Carhartt” brown colored hoodie was dropped most likely due to slow sales and replaced with the black which should be far more popular. Of course all the new options will still be powered by the Milwaukee M12 battery system. (more…)

Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Stanley Reach Out to Help Build America

Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Stanley tools have decided to donate over $10,000 in tools to the Build America organization, which is a non-profit that makes improvements to public spaces such as parks.

According to A Concord Carpenter, the “Build America” program is a team of 21 recent, college graduates who travel the country, for 6-weeks, visiting camps and parks rebuilding and building accessible recreation for people with disabilities. During these six weeks, the team, will build accessible fishing piers, nature trails, climbing walls, wheel chair ramps and many other amenities providing opportunities for campers to experience everything summer camp has to offer.

Throughout the summer, the team will log over 4,000 man hours, save camps and communities thousands of dollars in labor and materials and positively impact the lives of thousands of people with disabilities.

Our friend Rob Robillard of A Concord Carpenter is also involved with Build America. You can read his take here.

Milwaukee M12 Variable Speed Polisher/Sander 2438-22X

M12 Buffer

Years ago during one of my summer breaks home from college a buddy and I thought it would be a good idea to get jobs at a carwash making tips towel drying cars. After about a week I got promoted to detailer. With no detailing experience, not even old enough to buy a beer the keys to new Mercedes, BMWs & Porches were handed over half a dozen a day. After 2 weeks on the job and learning the hard way how to burn paint with rubbing compound I figured I had learned enough and we venture out on our own as car detailers. We only had to do 1 -2 cars a day as opposed to 5 or 6 and we made more money plus finished around lunch so plenty of time for the pool. Ended up being the best summer job ever! (more…)

Milwaukee Step Bits Optimized for Cordless Drilling

Milwaukee Step Bit

Step bits have been around since before my time and at first glance the new Milwaukee Step Bits look pretty similar to others in the marketplace. Looks can be deceiving in this case because these new bits do have some advanced features which are hard to appreciate. For starters the Rapid Strike tip is more pronounced to start the hole clean and avoid any walking. The bits also have a black oxide coating to prolong bit life and a duel flute for faster speed but you can find similar features on other bits.
