Milwaukee M12 & M18 Rapid Charger 48-59-1807

Milwaukee Rapid Charger

Several months back we were privileged enough to attend the Milwaukee New Product Launch Event and of all the innovative new items we reported on, the most asked about has been this multi-bay rapid charger 48-59-1807 ($169). There are several impressive features of this new charger that may justify the expense over the M18 Sequential 6-Bay charger 48-59-1806 ($99) even if you don’t have any M12 batteries to charge. Lifetime Hole Saw Tooth Warranty for Milwaukee Hole Dozer

Lenox vs Milwaukee

It is a pretty bold move to put a Lifetime warranty of any kind on a hole saw. By definition “bi-metal” hole saws are designed to go through various different materials. This is certainly the first time we’ve heard of any company willing to replace a hole saw for a tooth break for any reason, typically a tooth break would be considered “user error” and be deemed void of warranty. It is clean Milwaukee has developed something special with the Hole Dozer Hole Saws and not afraid to put their money where their mouth is.

Milwaukee M12 Cordless Jobsite Vacuum 0850-20

M12 Vacuum

Whenever we hear about a new jobsite cordless vacuum it’s hard not to have flashbacks to my childhood of mom using her DustBuster (1986 commercial below) she kept mounted on the wall. It was a handy little vacuum she used to clean out her Silver Honda Hatchback. Jumping from those memories to a modern day jobsite isn’t the most natural leap however the trend to find better ways to create less mess while working and leave less mess afterwards is only getting more prominent. Leaving behind a mess can raise questions of professionalism, quality of work, safety, etc that make it a pretty simple extra step to take if you are interested in repeat business or referrals.

m12 build your own

Until the end of the year, Milwaukee is letting users build their own kit in the M12 cordless tool platform. This is kind of a complicated promotion, so bear with me while I try to explain it. (more…)

Milwaukee Backpack Ideal for Electrician Apprentices

Milwaukee Backpack

The NECA-IBEW Electrical JATC offers a five-year apprenticeship program, which combines both on the job and related classroom training. If accepted into the apprentice program, apprentices are assigned to an electrical contractor for a minimum of 8000 OJT hours; there is no guarantee of 40 hours per week.  Apprentices will complete a total of 10 terms of school; classes are currently one day per week at the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center.

Every student is required to start the program with a list of hand tools that looks pretty much identical to the Milwaukee Electrician’s Hand Tool Set 48-22-0100 ($249). Partner that with the new Milwaukee Backpack 48-22-8200 ($99) and you’ve got everything an electrical apprentice would need in package that can also safely store laptops, books and other supplies. Above is the two together.

*** July 2015, this Electrician’s kit 48-22-0100 was updated with 2nd generation hand tools and from 15 to 17 pieces. It now includes the Electrician’s Tool Pouch 48-22-8100 ($49). (more…)

Future of Cordless Power Tools, 5.0Ah and Beyond

Makita Cordless Bike

It looks like by the beginning of November both the Milwaukee 5.0Ah ($129) and Makita 5.0Ah ($119) batteries will have hit the market. Joining the like of Bosch 5.0Ah ($129), Metabo 5.2Ah ($133) and Dewalt 5.0Ah ($142) which are already available. In the race to build a better battery each manufacturer focuses on something a little different. Makita which was pretty late to the 4.0Ah party, launched only a few months ago, jumped right into the 5.0Ah game. They will bring the fastest charge time of the bunch promising a 45 minute total charge for 5.0Ah and couple that with the only duel slot 36V technology you’ve got some serious output to play with.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL Cordless Hole Hawgs 2707-22 & 2708-22

M18 Hole Hawgs

For years the Milwaukee Hole Hawg 1675-6 ($299) has been a staple for electricians, plumbers and many other tradesmen alike. This is the workhorse for professional drilling applications and in its current form is remarkably similar to the tool launched 45+ years ago. Milwaukee is making some big leaps forward in 2014 however with the M18 FUEL Hole Hawgs, Chucked 2707-22 ($449) & Hex 2708-22 ($449). For starters the drills are 4 lbs lighter than the older corded versions but they don’t sacrifice anything in the way of drill speed. The M18 FUEL cordless drills actually consistently beat the corded version in our testing with it. With 2 fully charged M18 batteries, Milwaukee is claiming an electrician can do a full 2500-3000 sq ft residence so run time shouldn’t be an issue either.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Drills 2712-22 & 2715-22

m18 fuel sds-plus

While Milwaukee has always offered rotary hammer drills in SDS-Plus sizes they have not been serious players in the category. Bosch and Hilti have been the leaders with Dewalt and Makita taking their share of the pie as well. Up to this point 18V cordless SDS-Plus drills have been more of a lower powered niche product. Things look like they are about to shake up however as Milwaukee is working to prove their M18 FUEL cordless rotary drills can not only outperform any 18V or 36V but corded drills as well.
