RIDGID RP 340 Is the Next Generation of RIDGID Press Tool

340 in use

RIDGID’s press tools are something of an industry standard as far as press tools go, and press tools in general are becoming more and more widely adopted as people realize how much easier they are than busting out some solder. From everything I’ve heard about the tools, they work great, but they can be a little heavy and bulky. RIDGID must have heard the same stuff, because they have released compact and inline versions of their original press tool. These tools are great, but they can’t tackle as many different diameters and varieties of pipe as the original. As a result, RIDGID’s drive to make their press tools smaller, lighter, and less unwieldy has led to an overhaul of the RIDGID RP 330 tool. Let me introduce the RIDGID RP 340. (more…)

Ridgid Deal for Free CA-300 Camera with microREEL & microDRAIN

Ridgid SeeSnake CA-300

There is little question that the Ridgid SeeSnake Inspection Cameras are the leaders in the plumbing inspection industry, and  they continue to retain that status by launching several innovative new products in recent years. The new microDRAIN and microREEL systems not only make these inspections much easier because of their compact/cordless nature but also are far less expensive giving a whole new range of professional access to these diagnostic tools. Here are some pretty aggressive deals worth looking into if you are currently sitting on the fence.

Ridgid 238-P Soil Pipe Cutter Impact Attachment

Ridgid 238-P

This is our first look at the new Ridgid 238-P Soil Pipe Cutter attachment that can be used with any ½” impact wrench to cut cast iron & clay pipe up to 8” (6” concrete). Shown faintly in the above picture it is working with the wildly popular Ingersoll Rand Cordless Impact IQv W7150, but it could also work any other brand of high torque impact drivers: cordless, electric or air powered. The target price for one of these units should be around $600 and they will actually hit shelves later this month! This is an ideal solution for folks who are looking to get away from using manual cutting tools but don’t want to go all the way up to the more expensive hydraulic pipe cutting tools. These units will be available shortly from Ohio Power Tool, in the meantime read more in the Ridgid press release below. (more…)

Ridgid SeeSnake Digital Recording Options

RIDGID-SeeSnake-CS10-Digitale-opname-monitor-met-USB-(2)

For reasons I do not fully understand (perhaps as a tax write off), December always seems to be a good time of the year to buy a Ridgid SeeSnake Inspection System. While SeeSnakes are flying off the shelves, I thought I would take an opportunity to discuss the different recording systems that are available for the full size Ridgid SeeSnake reels and talk about what each can and can’t do.

Ridgid PTEC 3000 Tailpiece Extension Cutter Addresses Issues

It seems the folks at that design the Ridgid pipe and tubing cutters have seen the err in their ways after the release of the PTEC 2550 and have sought to correct the most major issue with it. The PTEC 3000 features an open, rather than closed, design for 1-1/2″ pipe. This feature allows you to cut pipe that is single or double flanged or already has a fitting or something that increases the diameter of the pipe. (more…)

Ridgid ProPress 200B In-Line ProPress 43428

Ridgid ProPress

The trend over the past several years has been moving more and more towards pressing copper pipe rather than traditional sweating methods. These connections are more secure and there is less room for error/leaks that will cause trouble down the road. We don’t have any exact figures to go on but our feeling from talking with plumbers daily is that this is a growing trend, but there is certainly a large portion of the tradesmen population that has yet to commit the investment needed to get a press tool and continue to sweat pipes. We recently announced 2 new Milwaukee Press Tools to hit the market, which must mean Milwaukee sees an opportunity for growth here. The new Milwaukee models feature a similar inline design which offers some advantage over the traditional gun type tools. Ridgid, now looking to be one-upped, is striking back with their own compact Strait Line design tool ProPress 200B ($1837, Ohio Power Tool). (more…)

Ridgid SeeSnake Max rM200 Inspection Camera System 200’

The Ridgid line of microREELs, microDRAINs and nanoREELS have become very popular inspection camera systems. These systems are more compact and very easy to take onto any job or into someone’s house. These systems are so portable and compact because the monitor, battery and recording system all based off of the CA-300 ($417, Ohio Power Tool) handheld inspection camera.

The SeeSnake Max 200’ camera shares many of the features of these other new systems including the removable drum, next generation push cable and improved reel mechanics. The new SeeSnake Max reel is available in 2 options 42338 ($5737, Ohio Power Tool) base unit and the 42348 ($6155, Ohio Power Tool) which includes the transportation kit. This seems like a pretty pricy upgrade for just the handle and some wheels however check out the complete unit in this photo album and you will see it also includes a top piece with some funky connectors. This will most likely be home to some kind of new monitor system that will run off the 18v battery system, as the CA-300 isn’t going to have the juice to run this. Also the handle locks into position to angle the reel, this gives full access to the controls and creates a very solid footing of the reel even when the camera is fully deployed (again see photo album).
