Bosch is announcing the biggest contest in Bosch history. Starting August 21st (today), they plan on giving away 2,000 of their 18V Socket-Ready Impact Drivers (IDH182) coupled with a CORE18V 6.3 Ah battery. It looks like 2017 will be the year Bosch 18V Cordless jumps back aggressively into the game. Today at the World of Concrete Bosch launched their new CORE 18V battery with a rated 6.3Ah and claiming 43% more power (per cell) for the packs 10 cells, than the Milwaukee 9.0Ah or Dewalt FlexVolt 6.0Ah which each use 15 battery cells. The result is more power from a battery pack that is 35% more compact and 24% lighter than either the larger Milwaukee or Dewalts. The new Bosch CORE GBA18V63 ($149) is also claiming to be the Fastest charge time at 8 minutes per amp, faster than Makita, FlexVolt or Milwaukee Rapid Charger. Available Shorty, a new addition to the Bosch 18V Rotary Hammer lineup a true 1” SDS-Plus Bulldog GBH18V-26 ($349, bare). The new EC Brushless motor will put out a very impressive 1.9 ft-lbs of energy. At the end of last year we did a full Cordless SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer Head to Head and according to the numbers this new Bosch would be more powerful than the Hilti, Dewalt, Metabo, 18v Makita and Milwaukee (2712-20). Still slightly less impact force than the 36V Makita or Milwaukee (2715-20) but very close. Certainly power isn’t everything and at on 7.7lbs the new Bosch looks be the top power-to-weight in the class.

These new cordless EC Brushless drills from Bosch are their 2nd generation brushless models for the “Compact Tough” mid-torque application range. We are still waiting to see a Bosch “Brute Tough” Brushless models to go up against the Milwaukee FUEL, Dewalt and Makita drills with the 1000+ in lbs torque (like we tested in the 2015 Hammer Drill Showdown) which Bosch will hopefully launch later 2016. These new Bosch Compact Tough models produce a solid 531 in lbs, enough for 90% of common applications (only a year ago 700 in lbs was considered very heavy duty). The selling point with these units is defiantly in size, weight, value and safety without sacrificing other pro features. (more…)
