With a continued focus on user safety Bosch has announced a larger addition to their growing lineup of vacuums & dust extractor accessories. As companies have become compliant with the OSHA silica standards the Bosch VAC090 and VAC140 have been extremely popular. Both feature auto-cleaning, tool power management and 150 CFM which means they meet requirements up to 6” cutting & grinding tools. For professionals however there continues to be a big demand for a dust collection solution for use with larger equipment 7”, 9”, 12” and larger (cutting/grinding). The GAS20-17AH ($1500) is a heavy duty monster that’ll collect dust at a rate of 300 CFM so more than enough to use with larger grinders and cutters all the way up to 12” under Table 1 (possibly even on 14” or higher but would require testing). The battle of Red Laser Vs Green Laser rages on, clearly Green is easier to see with the human eye than Red but there are other factors that need to be considered, mainly cost and runtime. Good news is the cost on green lasers has come down dramatically so it is easier to build lasers such as the Bosch GLL 100 G ($229), the other good news is that Red Line Lasers continue to fall as well with some cheaper options even below $40 like the Bosch GLL 2. This certainly doesn’t make the decisions easier but good news is pretty much anyone can afford a laser level. Runtime is the other important consideration while Bosch does not give their specs, PLS does provide estimates of 35+ hours with PLS180 RED ($282) but only 2-6 hours with PLS180 GREEN ($479) which is probably very similar ratios across other brands.

The Bosch Colt Palm Router for the longest time was really the only trim router you would see out there, people loved it so much we started seeing all sorts of customer adaptations, mini router tables and other accessories people hand built or from 3rd party manufacturer’s. A few years back Makita and Dewalt jumped into game with palm routers with plunge bases and now we even have a 18V cordless versions from Ridgid and Makita XTR01 palm router. Not to be out-done Bosch has now revamped their classic Colt with the new GKF125CE ($129) adding more power with 1.25 HP motor (up from 1.0 HP) but also more control with Soft Start and Constant Response circuitry.
There is also a Kit version GKF125CEK ($139) which adds a straight guide and a case. For more info on the new Colt check out the full Bosch Press Release below. These units should be shipping early November and should be in high demand this Christmas season. Check out all the corded Bosch Routers unfortunately no word yet on an 18V cordless router unit… fingers crossed it will happen at some point. (more…)

A few months back there was a bit of a premature back and forth between Bosch and SawStop however it looks as though SawStop was accurate in their early celebration. As the January 27th ruling is that Bosch must “Cease and Desist from conducting any of the following activities in the United States: importing, selling, marketing, advertising, distributing, transferring (except for exportation), and soliciting United States agents or distributors for imported [Reaxx] table saws.” (more…)
