New Milwaukee M12 & M18 Plumbing Tools at NPS17

While at the 2017 New Product Symposium this year, we saw some pretty impressive innovations in plumbing tools and technology from Milwaukee. Milwaukee has made some game-changing improvements on some of their existing plumbing tools, but also introduced some industry-first tools that have never been seen before. They have made an impressive step forward for M12 Drain Cleaning & M18 Drain Cleaning. We are very excited to see how these new tools we saw perform against the current competition.

Milwaukee Tool 2016 New Product Symposium #NPS16 – In A Nutshell

Sawzall Carbide Blades

We wanted to hit some of the high points of today’s 2016 Milwaukee Product Launch Event! We will of course follow up with some additional in-depth coverage over the next week or two on many of these new products. Please feel free to email in questions or ask them on our Facebook (where we have a ton more event pictures and videos) and we will do our best to address them right away! For more event info search #NPS16 on your favorite platform!

New ONE-KEY Tools and Features

A few big announcements today on the ONE-KEY platform in new tools and features for the platform. First you will be able to shut off tools remotely if lost or stolen, good for all One-Key tools (once update goes live). Basically this makes them worthless to try to sell, pawn or use and should be a pretty good theft deterrent along with the tool tracking to actually help find the tools. Once recovered you can of course activate them again and use the tool. If nothing else you’ll at least have some satisfaction knowing the jerk that stole your tools isn’t going to get to use them.

Fuel Sawzall M18 One-Key

M18 FUEL SAWZALL with ONE-KEYJake tried the new (Coming in October) Sawzall ONE-KEY. By changing profiles, it slows the took to match the material. #NPS16 #NBHD

M18 FUEL Sawzall with ONE-KEY is coming soon, which is the next logical tool, there are clear benefits to dialing the tool speed but the biggest benefit (we think) is the tool tracking. We were hoping to see other high dollar M18 items get the ONE-KEY tech like SDS-Plus, SDS-MAX, Press Tools, Pex, BandSaws, HoleHawgs, etc just to be able to track the tools. Added Safety feature can stop blade once through material. (see Full Post M18 Sawzall ONE-KEY M18 Sawzall ONE-KEY) (more…)

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 18ga Cordless Finish Nailer 2740-21CT

M18 FUEL Nailer

When we first heard Milwaukee was getting back into the nailer businesses, both with M18 Cordless Nailers and Air Framing Nailers we were a little nervous, could they be going away from their core user focus?  On one hand they don’t even sell nails but on the other they have lead the way in many cordless innovations. We got our hands on the M18 FUEL Finish Nailer 2740-21CT ($379) recently and actually used this in a full kitchen renovation project (several post series coming very soon on that).

2015 Cordless Reciprocating Saw Challenge – Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, Metabo, Milwaukee

2015 recip saw comparison

The Reciprocating Saw or Sawzall is the most popular cordless cutting tool because they are so handy and very versatile. For demo or rough work this is often the best option but even in cutting pipe, other metals or even precision work these tools can pinch hit extremely well, if you’ve got the right accessories. At this point 18V lithium batteries are more than adequate to power these types of saws for extended periods which is why it is so surprising we don’t see more brushless recip saws for the professional heavy duty use.

We have seen several manufacturers launch compact recip solutions recently, brushed motors and at lower price points. These are great tools and certainly have a place for DIY and Pro users but should compliment a full size reciprocating saw solution. We selected the most powerful recip saws these pro brands offer and put them with 5.0 Ah (5.5Ah Metabo) batteries (listed as bare tools): Bosch 18V CRS180BN ($129), Dewalt 20V DCS380B ($129), Makita 18V XRJ03Z ($169), Metabo 18V ASE18 LTX ($179), Milwaukee M18 Brushless 2720-20 ($199).

Largest Product Launch Ever for Milwaukee Power Tools

In October Milwaukee Power Tool will launch its largest release of new products ever. The 2 lines of products currently exist but this will greatly expand on both of these lines and truly give them a foothold into several new markets. The new products will be part of the new M12 (12 volt) & M18 (18 volt) tool lines.

The Milwaukee M12 tool line currently features the Micro Driver 2401-22 and M-Spector Camera 2310-21. Soon to be released (October 1st – target date) are an Impact Driver 2450-22, Copper Cutter 2471-22, Flashlight & Hackzall 2420-22. These new tools will be very popular among plumbing and HVAC contractors. The copper tube cutter especially will be a huge time saver and can handle 3/8” to 1” copper tube. The Hackzall is ideal for cutting pvc tubes or putting boxes in drywall and plywood. It will be a handy tool to have but will not replace your Sawzall for all jobs. You can find a few extremely well priced M12 combo kits available on Ohio Power Tool which will be available in very limited quantities to promote the new tool launch.

The Milwaukee M18 line expands on the current battery system used by the compact 18 volt model 2601-22. The 2601 however has a slim battery which is light weight but not powerful enough to use with the new hammer drill 2611-24, Sawzall 2620-22 or circular saws 2630-22. A new larger M18 battery will work with all the tools and will be called the XC battery. The new M18 line features a light weight hex impact that outperforms the competition in speed, torque and run time available with compact batteries 2650-21 or XC batteries 2650-22. The new line will also add additional tools in the following months such as a grinder, jigsaw as well as other new tools. The new M18 will eventually replace the current line of V18 tools as the only Milwaukee 18 volt tools but that will not happen until some time in 2009 and the batteries and accessories will of course be available for at least 5-10 more years.

All the new M12 & M18 tools are available now for Pre-Sale from Ohio Power Tool. The Pre-Sales will be fulfilled in the order they are received so if you want to be the first kid on the block with the new tools you should probably make a pre-order ASAP. On the other hand if you are looking for a great deal on great tools you can get a V18 4 tool combo 0920-29 for $426.36 or a V18 Hammer Drill & Hex Impact 0824-24 for $299.

Look for several in-depth tool reviews and more information on the M12 & M18 tools over the next week.
