Skilsaw 12” WormDrive Slide Miter Saw SPT88-01

Skilsaw 12" wormdrive miter
For years we’ve battled bulky motors sticking out of the side of the miter saw and though why can’t they figure out how to get this thing out of the way completely. It just takes a Worm Drive and BOOM the motors way back there, which potentially more torque. The STAFDA launch was just a sneak preview this thing isn’t going to hit the shelves until April 2019 with a $579 price tag which makes it right up there with other premium miter saw options. It is very light for a 12″ at only 51 lbs and has all the bells & whistles you’d expect for that price. Check out SkilSaw on Ohio Power Tool, Pre-Sale options for the SPT88-01 will be available soon!

Jobsite Table Saw Showdown 2018

Table Saw Testing

For this competition we wanted to look at the Top 5 Professional Jobsite Table Saws available today and compare them on Safety, Accuracy, Ease of Use, Power and Value. We only selected units with folding wheeled stands integrated, we did not include any of the “Compact” table saw units that use the folding stands also we drew the line at the top 5 for our test, other good options to consider would be Hitachi, Ridgid and Delta which offer solid units at even lower price points.

Table Saws Comparison

With 5 great competitors in the running some of the rating really comes down to splitting hairs but that’s what we do. Also the big elephant in the room is the SawStop as it’s the only one on the market with “Flesh Detecting” technology. We are really going to look at the saws without putting much emphasis on that feature (No Hot Dogs Were Harmed in the making of this video) there have been dozens of videos & posts on that topic, it is an awesome feature we recommend for everyone but if you are still looking for a table saw we want to focus on the other features.

Contestants:
Bosch Table Saw with Stand 4100-09 ($549)
Dewalt Table Saw with Stand DWE7491RS ($549)
Makita Table Saw with Stand 2705X1 ($749)
SawStop Table Saw with Stand JSS-MCA ($1299)
SkilSaw Table Saw with Stand SPT99-12 ($499) (more…)

SKILSAW WormDrive 10” Table Saw SPT99-12

Skilsaw Table Saw SPT99

The team at SKILSAW has been very focus on innovating in corded power tools, which has gone mostly overlooked by other big names in power tools that are consumed with moving everything cordless. The SKILSAW power trains for the most part use high performance motors and WormDrive system are the foundation of most innovation and really work to squeeze every watt of possible power out of your standard 110V service. This new SKILSAW 10” WormDrive Table Saw SPT99-12 ($499) features the most powerful jobsite saw motor we’ve come a crossed, a very nice cart as well as some other nice features which we think will make this saw a very popular jobsite solution.

Skilsaw 8” Metal Cutting Saw OUTLAW SPT78W-22

Skilsaw OUTLAW Wormdrive

When it comes to cutting metal in the field there are several different options between bandsaws, grinders, recip saws, chop saws, circular saws, torches just to name a few. A metal specific circular saw such as the Skilsaw OUTLAW SPT78MMC-22 ($319) offers some significant advantages in many different applications, lower sparks than grinding, minimal burrs, cold-cut won’t warp the metal, continuous cutting can make long straight cuts, long blade life, deeper 2-3/4” cutting, collects majority of the metal chips, just to name a few. This 8” saw uses the Skilsaw Wormdrive 15 amp motor that had been trusted for years on the job when power and performance are needed, packed with the Diablo Cerment II blades for a metal cutting dynamic duo!

Skilsaw Recip Saw SPT44A with BUZZKILL Technology

SKILSAW BUZZKILL Recip

We have been very impressed with the new SKILSAW professional brand and their departure from the cheaper Skil Tools we were seeing in the market. They have really been creative in utilizing the tried and true Wormdrive motor to expand to high quality metal saws, table saws, larger circular saws and a handful of other nice circular saws all paired with high quality Diablo Blades. This new reciprocating aka “BUZZKILL” saw SPT44A ($99) is their first branch away from a circular saw platform but we are guessing this is the first of many under their new leadership.

Skilsaw SouthPaw Circular Saw, Ned Flanders Approved!!

Skilsaw Sidewinder Southpaw

The US population is made up of by roughly 13% left-handers but blade left saws are not exclusively just for them. Skilsaw was made popular because of the incredibly tough and powerful worm-drive saws which are all predominantly blade left designs. Many righties love the Worm-drive design as well, personally I am a lefty and do prefer the left handed saw configuration. The new Skilsaw Sidewinder Southpaw SPT67M8 ($129) is an all magnesium 15amp direct drive circular saw with all the premium features you’d expect from a high end corded circular saw.

Skilsaw MeduSaw 7” WormDrive Concrete Saw SPT79-00

Medusaw Concrete Cutting

With Bosch selling the Skil brand to Chervon (Parent tool manufacturer behind EGO, Flex and many others) we were somewhat concerned as the SKILSAW brand has done a great job recently of separating itself out and re-branding towards the professionals again. There have been a handful of new tools built off it’s WormDrive technology including the WormDrive 10” Table Saw ($379), Outlaw 8” Metal Saw ($319) and SawSquatch 10-1/4” Saw ($399). It looks like a couple of things will be continuing, first the focus on new professional tools built off their trademark WormDrive platform and second the ridiculous names for every new saw will continue on as well! Launching January 2017 is the MeduSaw 7” Concrete Saw SPT79-00 ($399) it uses the WormDrive motor, also has built-in skate, guide, water hookup and dust collection.

SKILSAW 10″ Portable Worm Drive Table Saw SPT70WT-22

Worm drive table saw

We have been a fan of SKILSAW separating itself off from the SKIL brand and focusing on new saw products for pros. The worm drive saw has been a top choice for years and years and nice to see more products build around the tried and true technology. The biggest (really only) complaint we’ve ever heard about the worm drive is it can be too large and powerful for what people want to do using a 7-1/4” circular saw. New products utilizing the powerful motor like the Sawsquatch 10-1/4” Circular Saw SPT70WT-22 ($399) or the Outlaw 8” Worm Drive Metal Saw SPT78MMC-22 ($319) make a lot of sense. The new SKILSAW 10” Worm Drive Table Saw SPT70WM-22 ($379) is another great example of how this increased power as well as other inherent features of the gearing make this a very smart addition.
